01. total number of books owned: In excess of 500 i would gather...
02. the last book(s) i bought: Skavenslayer by William King. Hurrah for dark, gritty fantasy that abounds with political intrigue, paranoia and hopelessness
03. the last book i read: The thief of time by Terry Pratchett. Pratchett is the master of satire and social commentary and He does it with absurd british comedy, think Tolkien meets Monty Python
.04. Six books that mean a lot to me (and why):
1.) The Belgariad and the Malorean by David Eddings. While these are technicly 13 books, I will only use them as one. Eddings is, IMHO, the best serious fanstasy writer EVER. Some of the best character development I have ever seen, as well as a bittersweet feeling of loss on finishing the series. I mean I would read about these characters forever. His other stuff just doesn't compare though.
2.) Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett. This book made me cry, a lot. Great Whodunit involving the first firearm in a fantasy world
3.) Bridge to Tarebithia by Katherine Patterson. This book made me cry so much. Patterson really captures the essence of childhood and the moment that you lose you innocence and start walking the path of adulthood
4.) The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Loved this book soooo much. The narration of a dog's devolution was great, and for a book where the main characters are non-anthtopomorphized animals, there were some good characters.
5.) Necroscope by Brian Lumley. Good non traditional take on Vampires and the Cold War
6.) If Chins Could Kill by Bruce Campbell. Best Autobiography/Handbook for filmmakers I've ever read.
05. Favorite short story authors:
H.P. Lovecraft
Poppy Z. Brite
Clive Barker
Brian Lumley
I tend to run a little dark when it comes to short stories
06. Books I don't like:
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Just didn't like it
that's really the only book i don't like
07. tag 2 people and have them fill this out on their LJs:
