My roommate has the most annoying cat in the world. It never shuts up and it yowls all day long, it throws up everywhere (including my room) and it's not even friendly. She plays techno/rocker hip hop at like 11 in the morning REALLY loudly, and she never says hello when she comes home. It's not like I want to be her best friend, but it's creepy when we're in the same house for an entire afternoon and she doesn't say a word to me or our other roommate. We were in the kitchen for 10 minutes together the other night and she never said a word. Normally, at that point, I would start up a conversation, but I was conducting an experiment to see if she would actually initiate socialization. And there are some things that she doesn't understand that I learned as a child and I find it shocking she has no concept of them. She didn't know you DON'T pour bacon grease down a sink. I don't know, but that's something I learned a long time ago simply from observation and asking my dad when I was young. She just had no clue. I walked into the kitchen one day and she was about to pour it down the drain, at which point I jumped in exclaiming that she can't do that and she honestly couldn't think of why not. Maybe I'm being too judge mental, but everyone else I've talked to about it finds her behaviour strange too. When you're in the same room with someone for more than a couple of seconds (especially someone you're going to have to see on a regular basis), you talk to them! Even if it's just small talk or short "hey." Is that weird or am I just crazy????
