Summary: It’s your first day at a new school, in a country you’ve only heard about in History class. Can you really fit in this place when you’re only an “American”?
You and Siwon snuck into the classroom as quietly as you could, heading to your desks while the teacher’s back was turned. All you two needed were a few more seconds to get in the chairs and you’d be home free. The teacher wouldn’t notice, and you wouldn’t get in trouble. You started to smile to yourself for your success, then the teacher turned around and your smile fell hard like you did. Your butt hit the hard plastic with a soft thump. The teacher smiled at you, head cocked to one side, and then he looked to Siwon, and back to you. You could feel yourself sliding down through your seat, and out of the corner of your eye; you could see Siwon trying to hunch over invisible work. Both of you were in trouble, and like usual, Boom would choose only one of you to serve detention. After getting used to these weird punishment, you and the rest of your friends developed a theory one day that Boom’s hoping to separate the ‘influencers’ from the ‘influencees’. Looks like today you’d get the same spiel, Boom just waved his hand like he was clearing a idle thought away and turned his back to the class and continued writing on the board. Relieved, you started to empty out your bag for the start of the day, and then noticed; Sungmin looked different. You stared for a second, was it his hair? No, still as hot pink as ever. Maybe he wears make up now? That wouldn’t be a surprise, but no makeup seen. Then Sungmin sighed and it hit you; he was sad. Sungmin the happy go-lucky pink bunny, WAS SAD. Turning back to your notes, you bite the tip of your pencil, did something go wrong at the date last month? You think back to the day after the date. You had asked Sungmin for juicy details, being the nosy friend you are, but Sungmin was vague. He had told you that Kyuhyun took them to his house to change, they went to a park, Kyuhyun bought him a drink, and that was that. Nothing juicy, nothing climactic, just dull. You frowned and took the pencil out of your mouth. While you examined it, you tried to come up with your own story. Kyuhyun is a smooth talker, but not around Sungmin or about him for that matter. So there’s one theory. You paused, maybe Sungmin never was interested in Kyuhyun in the first place. That was an even bigger possibility. You had to stop yourself from groaning in frustration as the idea became more and more true in your head. You started this mess. You didn’t think about how Sungmin would feel, just wanted the boy to be loved, so you literally pushed him toward Kyuhyun and forced him into a date-Just how terrible of a friend could you be?! Almost like an answer, a wad of paper lands in front of you on your desk, causing you to turn and see Siwon silently urging you to open and read it. Your shoulders sagged; apparently you can be a even worse friend, thank you guilt trip. Taking care not to let Boom see the note, you slowly peeled it open.
Shi Yuan: I’ll volunteer to take the detention today, don’t worry about it. But in return could I ask you two things in return?
1. Hello, my name is __-sshi and my birthday is __/__/____ (MM/DD/YYYY)
2. Talk to Heechul. You need to stop waiting for something that we both know won’t happen. Please. You’re turning into a zombie.
You raise an eyebrow at the second request and unconsciously look at your reflection in your calculator. A zombie? You checked for bags or circles under your eyes; Yikes, Siwon was right. You didn’t look exactly like a zombie, but those were circles under your eyes. It’s something easily covered, you could get glasses and the frame would hide them, but you put down the calculator and turned your attention back to the note. You slide it under your class notes and wait until Boom has his back again before you hurriedly scribble you answer down. Before you can finish, Boom turns back to the class, and you glide your hand across your notepad as if you never stopped taking notes. Seconds and minutes pass while Boom is talking about science, your foot was jiggling in anticipation for him to finish. Then, BAM! Boom dropped his dry erase marker in surprise while a few students are jolted awake by the grand and loud entrance of Heechul. Or at least it looked like Heechul, his hair was honey colored this time and kind of had a older-Bieber look to it. His eyes looked like an animal’s as he leaned through the doorway, grimacing and glaring. Someone stood behind him, someone you didn’t recognize. He was tall, with brick colored hair swept across one eye, his uniform was neat without anything out of place. The man said something quietly to Heechul, causing him to move aside while the man shifted into the better lighting. You didn’t expect anything different, and there wasn’t.
Expect a response from someone. You heard a small gasp from another part of the room and caught Sungmin with his fingers over his mouth. His black eyes were wide and it looked like he saw a ghost. You transferred your stare from Sungmin to the stranger and back. The man didn’t notice Sungmin yet, but you paid no mind and finished answering Siwon’s note and tossed it back to him while Boom was distracted. Siwon caught the note perfectly in his hands and after he gave you a half-heartedly concealed thumbs up. Turning attention back to stranger: Now.
He definitely was a foreigner like you, had a thick accent of another language when he talked. His Korean wasn’t that bad though, despite that accent, everyone could understand him. He was a handsome guy to boot too, but that nose was bugging you. The nose wasn’t deformed or misshapen, it was just larger than normal. You let your head lean against your hand for support as you and the rest of the class hear the introductions.
“Uh, I’m Zhou Mi, and I look forward to being in class with you all.” He makes the last part of his sentence emphasized by trying to look at everyone in the classroom. Finally, his eyes lock with Sungmin’s and that smile disappears. You lean forward in your seat as Zhou Mi turns back to Heechul and strain to hear what they could be saying. Sungmin’s looking down at his lap now, with his hands intertwined. There was definitely something with them ,and you wanted to find out what it was.
“Thank you Zhou Mi. Since our classroom is getting a little crowded I’m going to have to rearrange some seats.” Boom announces, the class has his full attention now. You and Siwon both sit up straighter, dreading that he’s going to move one of you to the other side of the classroom. Unfortunately, Boom picks you anyway. Maybe you sat up too straight. “__-sshi thank you for volunteering, especially since I know how much you and Siwon love to pass notes to each other in class. Zhou Mi you can have __-sshi’s seat when her things are collected. __-sshi, I’ll have you sit next to Seungri.” You followed Boom’s general motion to see a baby faced guy smiling at you. You shrugged and hefted your things to the make shift desk behind Seungri. With one final blown kiss to Siwon(who looked like a kicked puppy now) you said goodbye to your old desk.
After the grand entrance and new student, everything settled back into place, which helped the day go by much faster. You smiled as the class was dismissed for lunch and before you can say ‘Pink bunny’ you grabbed Sungmin’s arm and dragged him to the hall before Zhou Mi could catch him. Sungmin frowned and tried to go back to the classroom, but you put both arms in front of him and pinned him to the wall.
“You. Zhou Mi. History, tell me, now. Please and thank you.” You urged. Sungmin looked to the open classroom door and then back at you.
“Long story short, he and I dated, can I go now?” Sungmin made a move to leave, but you didn’t budge. He sighed and tried his ‘cute eyes’ on you. You laughed bitterly at his attempt and leaned in closer.
“Sungmin-ah, something’s bugging you, and it has to deal with him. You still know that I’m your best friend right? You can tell me these things.” Sungmin looked to the ground and opened to speak.
“Yah! So you are cheating on me, while I work so hard to bring food to the table to feed the children you spend my money on other men!” You roll your eyes and curse under your breath as Heechul fakes a tragic life story. You turn and plaster a sweet smile.
“I didn’t know we were still in a relationship, if that’s what you call it.” You remark. Heechul’s smirk dropped and almost looked like he sincerely was hurt. He started to speak, but then shook his head and walked off. “Hmph. Serves him right.” You complained. Sungmin tapped your shoulder and when you faced him, he was staring right into your eyes.
“__-sshi, did I miss something that happened in the last month? Has Heechul hurt you somehow?” You hesitated. Yes, Heechul did hurt you, he never showed while you waited on him, but at the same time, you let him hurt you and ended up hurting yourself. After taking some time, you shook your head and smiled.
“No, he hasn’t done anything wrong, I’m just being kind of dumb recently. Come on, let’s find the others and have lunch with them.” You tugged on Sungmin’s arm and walked to the cafeteria, feeling like a small weight was lifted from your shoulders. Then another thought hit you, it wasn’t exactly the right time to bring it up, but there really isn’t a time when it’d be right. “Sungmin-ah, how are things going with Kyuhyun? I saw him this morning, he looked like sad today.” You cocked your head to the side to show that this topic could be avoided if he wanted, but Sungmin just clicked his tongue and smiled at you.
“Now that’s not fair __-sshi! I can’t tell you everything about my love life, or there’d be nothing left to share!” he giggled and you smiled. Sungmin was bouncing back. Sungmin put a finger to his lips and did fish lips “Don’t tell people, but I think things are going to get messy.” You leaned into his arm to hear more. “Ah! No! That’s all I’m saying! No more secrets for you missy!” You pouted at the wicked bunny and let go of his arm to run to embrace a waiting Siwon. Once you were able to turn your head back, you stuck out your tongue to Sungmin, and you expect him to laugh; to call you silly and join the lunch group. But Sungmin suddenly was planted in one spot, avoiding something and twiddling his fingers. Then it hit you, the tall figure of Zhou Mi stood and looked at Sungmin. The air was definitely awkward and you wanted to just leave, but Siwon’s hug is a vice around you, so you were stuck.
“You could have called.” Sungmin said softly. He crossed his arms and focused his eyes onto the floor. Zhou Mi took a step forward to Sungmin, arms open. Sungmin started to lift his head up, then stopped and shook his head. “I’m sorry __-sshi, could you tell everyone else I’m not feeling well? I’m just going to go to the nurse’s office.” Zhou Mi’s eye became alert just hearing that.
“I could take you down to the nurse’s Min.” he offered, but Sungmin held up his hand to stop Zhou Mi and turned to leave. While you, Siwon, and Zhou Mi watched him leave, you all failed to notice the presence behind you all.
“So…new kid, and Sungmin have a history? Uhhhh, Kyuhyun doesn’t stand a chance. Poor guy.” Kibum said lazily as he appeared near Zhou Mi’s shoulder, sipping a soda. Siwon jumped back, which cause d you to lose your footing, and fall into him, so you and Siwon fell into a table. You had a softer landing since Siwon was in the way, but that was a really hard fall. You held your side with one arm while you used the other to get support from a chair. Too bad there wasn’t a chair, so you just fell down to your knees and waited for Kibum to put down his soda and help you to your feet. Siwon on the other hand, got back up no problems, on his own. He wasn’t happy though, Siwon crossed his arms and gave Kibum one of his rare ‘it better be worth this’ stares. Kibum grinned and slung his arm over a now very uncomfortable Zhou Mi and resumed drinking his soda. Zhou Mi tried to move away, but Kibum ignored him, and instead just peered up at Zhou Mi. “Hi, I’m Kibum.” You had to cover your mouth to hide a laugh when Zhou Mi gave him a awkward nod in response.
“Kibum, it’s my job to make the new students feel awkward, not yours!” You smiled as the rest of your lunch group comes into view. Yesung, the one who was complaining, dragged Kibum off of Zhou Mi. Ryeowook was right behind Yesung, writing on a pad of paper with a pair of headphones on.
“It’s also not fair to start the party without us. Now get over here, you’re paying for lunch.” Shingdong chirped while he yanked Kibum out of Yesung’s hands. Yesung and Ryeowook exchanged high fives as Shingdong restrained Kibum from running. “Ryeowook, take everyone’s orders for lunch and then write them down, we’ll get them for you guys.”Ryeowook nodded and flipped to another page to start writing.
When all the orders were finished and everyone was sitting down to eat, you felt a chill bite your legs. In a natural response, you shivered and looked around. Zhou Mi stopped eating and tapped your shoulder.
“__ noona, is everything ok?” you smiled politely and tried to focus back on eating.
“Everything’s fine, just got a bit cold, that’s all.” Zhou Mi nodded and turned back to the lively conversation he was having with Siwon. You looked over your shoulder again to double check, and caught glimpse of someone. You shuddered again at the look Heechul sent across to you. His eyes were focused completely on you, unwavering even when Hangeng tried to get his attention. Without saying anything or getting your things, you stand and make your way to Heechul. It wasn’t until you sat down in front of him did he finally stop giving you a death glare. You weren’t going to give in fully to him though. With this guy, you have to play it like you always have the upper hand. You picked up the apple he next to his books and looked at it.
“You know if you kept looking at me like that your face would have frozen.” Heechul gave a look to Hangeng, and without needing to say anything, Hangeng picked up his tray and left for the table you just left. You waited until you could hear the table welcoming Hangeng and started to talk again. “So, what’s up?” Heechul leaned over and plucked the apple out of your hand.
“Other than you saying we weren’t in a relationship, I’m peachy.” He takes a huge bite out of the apple and tries to bore holes into you with his eyes. “Why did you say that this morning?” you see Heechul’s face start to soften and there’s that look again. The look that might actually be offended. You chewed your lip and said the first thing that was on your tongue.
“I waited for you, you know. Every morning at school, I wait for you on the bench before going in. That’s what we said we would do right?” Heechul’s eyes widen and he puts the apple down, but you don’t care. “Every morning I waited, and you wouldn’t be there. I wouldn’t leave until Siwon made me leave for class.” You lock eyes with Heechul and glare. “Why were you never there?!”
“__-sshi, I h-“
“You know what? I don’t care. Just forget it. I’m tired of waiting, I’m tired of getting hurt.” You stand up and before anyone can stop you, you make a beeline for the door. Screw Heechul, you didn’t need him you continued to tell yourself. You don’t need that cocky bastard. Just keep telling yourself that. You managed to make it to the restroom before you balled against the wall and cried silently.
You do need him.
Chapter 2 Fin.
A/n: This was 8 pages.... O.o But nevertheless, I was proud of this chapter because I tried to do edits so it could be more interesting and not reveal the MiMin drama too much. But, it feels like nowadays, I'm just writing for myself. I don't have even one person comment after I finished BCBBT! Guess I'm forever alone.
