What is "Yes", Alex?
Here's a nice article in the
NYT about The Daily Show's progression from guerilla comedy covering the 2000 election to a beacon keeping me and thousands of other Americans from drink ourselves to death over the course of this past decade.
What I like in the article is something I've noticed while watching TDS over the years (and I watched it before Stewart was on), is the fact that they sling the zingers, without getting into bitterness. The writers avoid the trap that Lenny Bruce got into in his later years when his routines became less about his wiseassedness and more about his crabbing about his legal problems. When you let the other side get all shouty and overwrought, they look stupid, and you don't end up dead from a heroin overdose.
