Microfic: Reassurance

In my perfect world, when Tina gets worried, she talks to Mike about it, not Artie.

“Mike?” Tina asked quietly.

“Hi!” Mike said, closing his locker and grinning at her. “Sorry I didn’t get back to you until late last night. We got caught up rehearsing.” He leaned forward to kiss her, and she half-heartedly pecked his lips. “What’s up?” he asked, frowning.

“Nothing,” Tina replied, shaking her head, but Mike saw through that.

“You’re sure?” he asked gently, almost unconsciously taking Tina’s books as they began to walk toward their history class. “You can tell me, T.”

“This is silly, I know, but I just… You and Brittany have been rehearsing a lot, and she’s really pretty, and-”

“Hey, there’s nothing going on between Britt and me,” Mike promised, slipping his arm around his girlfriend. “We’re both just…really nervous about being featured, so we don’t know when to call it quits.”

“You’re nervous?” Tina asked incredulously, and Mike shrugged and nodded. “But you’re an amazing dancer!”

He blushed and gave a little nod. “Thanks. And so is Britt, and sometimes we know it, but right now, we’re mostly freaking out.”

“Don’t freak out,” Tina insisted, affectionately bumping his shoulder. “You’re going to be amazing.”

“You think so?” he asked.

“I know so.”

“Can I tell you a secret?” he murmured, as they stopped outside the classroom door. “I wish I was dancing with you.”

Tina smiled and smoothed his hair back from his face. “I’ll be right there,” she promised. “And you and Britt are awesome together.”

“Yeah?” His face lit up, and Tina just loved to see him so happy. “Hey! You should come to rehearsal tonight. Santana’s coming, too, to sing and stuff.”

“I’d love to,” Tina agreed, and Mike smiled.

And even though a bunch of other students were trying to shove past them, she reached up for an Asian kiss, which he very willingly gave.
