Cissie drew in a deep breath as she put the finishing touches on her costume. She was wearing a golden gown that was so over-the-top and full that she was guaranteed to have bruises on her hips in the morning. Her mask covered her face nicely, revealing only her gorgeous eyes while concealing everything else. She was attending the New Year’s Eve party of the season and her outfit just had to be perfect. A few fleeting thoughts were given over to worry that her gown might blend in because theme was Silver and Gold and people were to dress accordingly. That’s why her gown had to be so over-the-top. There was beaded embroidery forming heart-piercing arrows and Swarovski crystals adorning the shining fabric. A small smirk graced her lips, there was no way her dress could be overlooked. She gave an approving smile to the mirror before heading out to the ball. She felt like a princess in this gown and she couldn’t help but hope that tonight she would find her prince.
She was glad that her mask hid her identity from the press. There was a time when, due to her psychotic mother’s cajoling, she would have spent hours in front of the paparazzi posing for pictures. Her days of fame whoring ended a long time ago, that’s part of the reason she ended her time as Little Miss Arrowette. That and the fact that she didn’t feel the need to emulate her mother in mask or out. Bonnie may have been the original Arrowette, but she was never a hero. Her neglect, obsessions, and constant need to gain fame and the attention of Green Arrow by living vicariously through her daughter (without making sure she had proper protection or training) nearly got Cissie killed. Not that her mother ever said why she was so obsessed with Green Arrow, Cissie assumed it was a schoolgirl crush taken to a freaky level. It was fortunate that Cissie was one of the best shots around or she would have been dead before puberty.
Tonight she was able to do a few spins for the press and then walk away. She wasn’t obsessed with fame any more, but it would be criminal not to show off an outfit like that… and Cissie still liked to show off, just less than she did before. She suppressed the urge to gasp as she entered the ballroom. Everything was so spectacularly gorgeous. The room was decorated in silver and gold. The floors were white marble with gold streaks laced through it like shimmering bolts of lightning. The walls were done in a rich gold colour with silver garlands that made the whole place feel over-the-top luxurious. The sparkling chandeliers glittered with dripping diamonds that cast cascades of shimmering, rainbow-prism filled light all through the room. The table cloths were silver, the plates were gold, the chairs were antique and golden with beautifully ornate silver bows tied around their backs. Long stands of crystals hung from the ceiling over the dance floor, lending a magical and almost starlit quality to the dancers.
As spectacular as the décor was, the dancers and their outfits were even more splendid. Cissie worried about being underdressed for just a few moments, but then reminded herself of how gorgeous her gown was and how fabulous her taste is, and she confidently strode into the room, ready to make her entrance. She was really pleased with how the room turned and several eyes seemed to widen behind their masks as she made her way through the room. She was sufficiently beautiful and the crowd had been properly wowed. She felt more and more certain that she would find her prince and get a New Year’s kiss after all.
She jumped a little bit when a deep, an yeah, sexy voice made her turn, “I like your dress, it looks a bit gigantic though. It’s at least twice your size.”
Cissie huffed, “Three times my size if you count everything under the skirt.”
His green eyes sparkled as he answered, “I’m definitely factoring in what’s under your skirt.”
She couldn’t help but smile, he was little cheesy, but he was also gorgeous… well, at least what she could see of him was gorgeous. He was dressed in silver, looking dashing, his outfit was a perfect counterpoint to her own. He had red hair, broad shoulders that gave her the overwhelming urge to lick and bite them, and strong chest and arms… she imagined that he looked even better under his clothes and under his mask. There was something really familiar about those eyes behind the mask… she felt like she had seen him before, but there really wasn’t any way of knowing. She couldn’t resist the need to mentally go through a list of villains to see if he matched any who might be here, but there wasn’t anybody that fit his description that she could think of, although if Tim were here he could probably think of several. Then again, if Tim were here he would most likely know the identity of every single individual (in and out of mask).
“May I have this dance, My Lady?” He asked, offering her his hand with a bow that was so overly dramatic she almost thought he was being sarcastic, except that there was a look in his eyes that told her he really wanted her to say yes.
So Cissie took his hand and followed him to the dance floor. She felt like she was in one of those movies where the guy and girl are dancing together and the whole world fades away. She was surprised at how well they fit together, moved together, working fluidly around the dance floor in their own little universe. It was a bit of a shock to realize how close to midnight it had gotten.
Cissie wanted to look perfect when the clock struck 12, so she stepped away to the ladies room. When she got there she slipped off her mask and started touching up her makeup. There were a few other women in there, and she smiled politely as they took places at the mirror. Her attention focused on an absolutely beautiful woman in a golden gown with black feathers and a matching feathered mask. She smiled brightly when the woman paused to compliment Cissie on her own gown and mask combo, and the cute guy she was dancing with. Cissie agreed that he seemed like a catch and made her way back to her handsome gentleman, whoever he was… she was really going to have to get his name before the end of the night.

Dinah chuckled to herself as she made her way back to Ollie. She couldn’t help but think it would be sweet if Roy and Cissie actually got together. Arsenal and Arrowette could be very cute couple in Dinah’s mind, even if they had no idea who the other person really was at the moment. She smiled at Ollie as she start dancing with him again. “Roy certainly seems to be having a good time.”
“Yeah, he’s found himself a pretty little thing for the evening. He’s definitely smiling a lot for a guy who didn’t want to come tonight,” Ollie laughed.
“She’s definitely beautiful, and she does seem to be making him happy. I think they could work well together,” Dinah leaned her head against Ollie and sighed with an almost wistful sound.
“Getting a bit ahead of yourself aren’t you Pretty Bird? I mean, relationships for people like us are never easy.”
“Yeah, but if anybody could handle it I think that she could,” Dinah smiled as she watched Cissie rejoin Roy on the dance floor. They were definitely getting close, and with the countdown to New Year’s already started, there was no doubt who Cissie would be kissing.
“Why? Who is she?” Ollie was looking adorably bewildered, but Dinah remembered that he hadn’t seen Cissie without the mask, so it made sense that he had no idea what she was talking about.
“She’s Cissie King-Jones,” Dinah uttered the words as the countdown struck ‘2’, although her mind was drifting towards her own midnight kiss. She was completely shocked when Ollie looked horror stricken, sick, and furious all while simultaneously tearing off his mask and bolting towards Roy.

Cissie was smiling up at her dance partner as he was leaning in for the kiss. She closed her eyes and waited for their lips to meet, but instead felt him getting pulled away from her. Her eyes flew open to the sight of Oliver Queen pulling him away from her while yelling, “Get your filthy hands off my daughter!” Huh, she wanted a prince for New Year’s, but it looks like she was getting a Queen.
