So some friends of mine from high school and I have reconnected while we're all back in Pittsburgh being unemployed or going to gradschool, and we've started a book club. The first book we did--at the beginning of this month--was Murakami's After Dark. It went really well, and for January we're reading Reading Lolita in Tehran. Eventually I will have to choose a book and I want to pick a genre book with enough meat on it to satisfy the more literary-minded of the group, one that will stand up to a good dissection. Morgan (who is part of the club and has the same idea I do) thinks one of us should suggest The Last Unicorn. We both want to reread it. Another thought I had was doing Magic for Beginners by Kelly Link (I've never read it and I've been meaning to for ages!), I think short stories might be neat and add a little variety to the discussion.
So friends list, what do you think? Of our ideas? Any ideas of your own? I suppose I should say that some of us are a little slower readers than others so we want to stick to around 200 pages. But other than that anything goes.
