[Malin] So in a piece of unexpected-at-the-time-but-not-really-a-surprise news at work, half of our team was gently let go yesterday, including me. We were encouraged to apply for other jobs within the company if we find any, and promised good recommendations; it does seem like it was very much a reorg of a group that, due to various circumstances, was not going to have a lot of revenue prospects in the next year. Additionally, the company has been quietly laying off people all over for the last several months and replacing them with contract work (which makes me wonder why I would want to find another position with the same company, but still...).
Anyway. I want to stress that I am fine. I am technically still employed until January 6, I am covered by my husband's health care, and I will be getting severance pay for a couple months after that official termination date. It was a little bit of a shock, but I am now very excited about having December to focus on Sofawolf and my writing projects (yes, honey, and making cookies for our party). I actually feel worse for the team I'm leaving behind, because they're going to have to deal with a lot of crap for the next several months.
Come February, or maybe late January, I will probably be kicking the resume out to my network in the area. Right now, I'm going to sit here and write next to our lovely-smelling Christmas tree, and enjoy the season. :)
