Nothing in life comes with any guarantee. Not even how long you're going to get. People die all the time. Often they're people you would never expect.
Nothing has a 100% certainty other than that we will all die.
This is the circle. The cycle. As one generation slowly dies out, another is born to replace it. You embrace and enjoy the entrance of a new life into the world just as deeply as you dread and mourn the exit of another.
There is nothing we can doing about it.
Nothing we should do.
It is how it is meant to be.
Many of us spend our whole lives trying to read meaning into a series of events, some natural and unexpected and others created by our own actions, but we can't stop a lot of what happens to us, and again we probably shouldn't.
We can't find meaning when there is none.
We are merely an evolved species.
Too clever and complex for our own good.
Our evolution has ruined us in the same way that it has created us.
We expect.
We aspire.
We imagine.
In a thousand years, or maybe ten thousand years we will all be extinct. Our planet will be inhospitable to us all and we will burn up and fade into the soil.
There will be nothing but our fossils to dig up when the next species arrives, whether by evolution, by discovery or creation, whichever floats your boat, and we will be dust.
The next lot may follow a similar route, who knows how many times something or someone has evolved from the mud and sea. But if we search for meaning we'll be sadly disappointed, there is no meaning. We are here because we are here. We are born because we were conceived, we live because we were born and we die because we lived.
What else is there to say?
We are lucky and damned because we are too sentient. We search for the unanswerable and we ignore the evident and the existent.
That is it.
So if you love someone, love them wholly. If you are happy, smile. If you're in pain, feel it. It hurts because you're alive.
Don't waste time worrying about things you never did. Think about the things you want to do, make friends, make plans, make amends, make love, make memories, make time. Before it's all gone.
