Retro!
I've been loving the late 70s/early 80s retro look of the hatch since the beginning of the season - spinning magnetic tape! Blinky lights! - but my love has been redoubled with Eko and Locke's discovery of The Pearl. TVs with curved corners! Pneumatic tubes! This is so awesome!
I would never trade that era's technology for that of today, but I love the look. There's something sinister about retro high tech. I'm not sure what. I'll have to think about it. (And I hope it's not just some unconscious association with, like, the Master Control Program or that thing that happened in that one Superman movie where the one chick got turned into a robot.)
Also, this show is so Myst. (Which I never played and is way more steampunk than retro, but still.)
The Wisconsin DMV is not open on weekends. It will be some time before I will have a weekday off from the Illinois project, so all the driver's license/registration stuff is going to have to wait a bit. Fortunately, the huge waiting times for registration and plates only seems to apply if you're doing it by mail, so I should be able to get my plates right away when I go in. If so, as long as I do it before the end of July, I don't have to worry about the stickers on my Minnesota plates expiring while I wait for Wisconsin ones.
