I went to get new glasses this weekend thanks to a perfect storm of my old glasses getting really etched in one lens, my sunglasses going missing, and realizing I haven't had an eye exam in about two years. While I was at the glasses store, the salespeople were talking about Sally Jessy Raphael's glasses. Then one said to me, "Oh, but you probably don't remember her." "Of course I do!" I said. Then the other one pointed to my information on the computer screen and said, "She's older than us! I'm sure she remembers Sally." "That's not fair," said the first salesperson, "you shouldn't be older than us and look younger!"
They didn't look any older than me, in my opinion. In any case, I'm only 29. Anyone younger than me really has no call to whine about looking old.
They didn't have the same frames I always get anymore. They seemed to be downplaying their designer glasses - a response to the economic downturn? The frames I got instead look nearly identical, but they aren't as comfortable. Next time I'll have to check other places to see if anyone has my old favorites, or else see if there's a way to get the old ones refinished (if the finish hadn't been wearing off the old ones, I'd have just had new lenses put in those). The new ones were cheaper, but anything I wear every day for one or two years is worth an extra $100 to get just right.
