I haven’t read your series yet. I just snooped in to read this part and I liked it very much.
“Who are you and what have you done with Henry Fitzroy, Lord of Lechery, Duke of Richmond et cetera? Do you even suck blood anymore?” […] “And playing with your food is a choice too.” […] Henry knew he couldn’t stay faithful to one person, he couldn’t just feed from person to person and discard them without thanking them for the gift of life that they were giving him. […] When it came down to it Vicki was eternally a romantic and a commitment-phobe who believed she should be The One in another’s life.
I love how you portray their relationship here. I see it similarly. The scene where Vicki told Henry in the series, that he didn’t have to play with his food and the one in 5:55 actually irked me a little bit. It’s there in a nutshell why it will never work between them. (That’s why I’m slashing Mike/Henry so avidly *cough*)
I can understand her. Wanting your lover to be faithful is completely normal and understandable. We all want our lovers to be faithful. But I think she’s using it as an excuse, because she can’t commit (or even really decide between Mike and Henry). And for Henry sharing sex is a way to give something back. Maybe he doesn’t need to play with his food, but I think that for him it’s coming as close to consent as he can with all those nameless people he feeds on. It’s not about paying for the blood. It’s about willingness and pleasure. I don’t see him giving it up. He needs a lover who will tolerate and understand it.
