A date has been set.

My corrective jaw surgery date has been set for Wednesday, November 3rd at 8:30 am. I need to arrive at the hospital at 6:30 am…ugh. And they expect the surgery to last 5 hours. I will need to stay at the hospital overnight so that’ll be a new experience.

Of course, I have tons of other appointments before the surgery. I need to meet with my orthodontist twice…once to get my final arch wire on my uppers and to get the damn putty off the back of my teeth…and once again to get my surgical posts attached to my wires. Fun.

I have to meet with my surgeon again on the 25th to get some x-rays, impressions, and a physical. Joy.

And of course, I have to give blood on the 20th. My doctor says it’s very rare that they’ll need to transfuse me with blood (he’s never had to use it) but they want some of my blood in stock just in case. I’ve never given blood before so this is actually quite scary. Especially since the last time I tried to give blood, the nurse was rude and sad that I hadn’t been drinking enough water because my veins were too small. A) I had given up caffeine for two weeks prior to that date in preparation for my donation and B) I drank more water during those two weeks than I do in two months! I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be genetic because my brother sad something similar happened to him to. In any case, my doctor has ordered me to take some iron supplements (so much that I’m probably on the verge of iron poisoning) but didn’t mention anything else about caffeine and water. I’m going to give up caffeine and drink more water anyway as a precautionary measure and besides, it’s healthy. The upside in all of this is that I may finally figure out what my blood type is.

Bad news: my mouth will be wired shut for 2-6 weeks thus I will be on a completely liquid diet and will likely miss Thanksgiving.
Good news: people loose an average of 8-10 pounds post-op. :o)
