There was a "Dark Circus" event in downtown Portland last night, a semi-spooky/alt themed Lit Crawl event at the Sentinel Hotel, which I looked forward to for weeks. Dina was to join me later in the evening.
I got all dressed up and tried on about a dozen lipstick shades to find the right bridge between scarlet and burgundy, because priorities.
I took the train, waited anxiously in line by my lonesome, only to find that the event itself was less than spectacular. I got several compliments on my attire, at least, as I stood outside of the event sipping on Starbucks.
The twinkle lights that swirl around the tree trunks this time of year are reason enough to visit downtown, but still I was close to telling Dina to forget it. First, I decided to see what other events were going on in the area. I stumbled onto a comedy show half a mile away for only 8 bucks, so we decided on that.
We met at the hotel, stopped to take photos of each interesting thing that caught our attention, and enjoyed a totally spontaneous evening of comedy in an adorable, tiny club whose walls are littered with vintage horror movie posters. LOVE.
Dina was a tad less impressed since her bar is set a little higher than mine, but for me this was one of those "what IS this life?" nights where I basked in the glow of getting dressed up, meeting a friend, and deciding on a random form of entertainment to enjoy that turned out to be surprisingly good, in a city we both call home. <3
