My Hanfic Reading List
So...!
I thought I'd compile a list of the hanfics I'm currently reading, in case any of you need some inspiration! We're a small community here but sometimes it's easy to miss out on something good just because it doesn't fall into our preferred genre. I know I'm guilty of that.
I'm only listing stories that are still being written, i.e. not on a long hiatus. Hopefully those stories will come back at some point, but right now let me recommend fics that are regularly updated.
Please note: I didn't post links to each individual fic as very few people seem to have links in their 'memories' sections and it's frankly a bit of a nightmare to find links for every story!
NEW FICS!
Ride or Die by oceaneyez86 - this is an Isaac-centred story (yay!). Even if I don't normally go for 'young' Hanson fics, I'm making an exception for this coming of age story set in a dusty trailer park somewhere that looks right out of a movie.
Antigen again by oceaneyez86 - a crossover with 'The Returned' (which I must admit, I dind't know), and another dystopian story, at last! I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first, as the blurb mentioned zombies, which aren't really my thing. But this is not your typical zombie story (so far no zombies have appeared anyway). The Returned are the marginalised in our society, basically. I won't tell you more though, check it out yourself.
Stained Red by withasmile87 - a het story with Isaac as main character. I don't usually read much het, especially when the wives and families are involved, but I can't resist Isaac's charm in this one. And each chapter generates a lot of debates in the comment section - this is possibly the story with the most 'lively' comments!
Understudy by anonymoushanfic - I know that this story hasn't been updated for a few months but I also know that it's not going to be dropped by the author, so I'm putting it in my list. It's the most heartbreaking story I've read so far, with a major character dying right at the start - something that usually is a 'no-no' for me but again, another exception to my rigid, self-imposed rules. It's written so well, it's worth the pain.
Sibling Rivalry - The Den by eleflowerpot - this is the sequel to the Sibling Rivalry series, which originally came from a one shot called 'The Chair'. This is the most deliciously sick stories of all. Don't read it if incest disturbs you, as the pairings are... creative, to say the least. But otherwise there's nothing too graphic - it's just sexy in a really interesting way.
Stay by stayfic - a collaboration of onlybonesremain and maniclust - Some good'ol angsty, sexy Zaylor going on there, which will appeal to all Zaylor fans, as well as anyone with an open mind who likes to read polished, beautifully written hanfic.
Songs Left Unsung - by shewasred - I don't think this one needs much of an introduction, right? I know that it's close to the end though. So make the most of it.
I Will Try To Fix You - a collaboration between shewasred and ahopper84 (I think?) - and sequel to 'Darling, I Want to Destroy You'. I really like this one, it has the feel of a theatre piece, somehow. Read it here.
Blackbird - by forgottenhall , one of very few Isaac stories out there. The pairing is my favourite of all - Tike - but in this story, the guys aren't related, so it might appeal to those who find any incest content disturbing.
White Collar Crime by purplerain2007 - this is a really, really intriguing story involving...you guessed, white collar crime. Who ever thought that embezzlement could be so interesting? This is a story in which all three guys share equal screen time, but the author is an Isaac girl so ... we're safe there, he's not going to be portrayed as the usual one-dimensional asshole!
And that's it, I think. I'm reading other on-going stories from some of these writers but I chose to focus on the ones that are updated more frequently, and also, on newer fics which maybe people haven't yet heard of.
