Aaaaah, you guys, I am only one grade for one paper away from my BA transcript (which I will eventually pick up in order to... hand it right back in so they'll let me stay in the Master program, I guess? RULES ARE CRAZY, IDK)! Hopefully it'll come in soon. I also got my thesis results today - 1.8 (on a scale from six to one) so I'm PRETTY HAPPY with that. Anyway, BLAH BLAH UNI STUFF. The Audimax on campus, which is home to mostly economics and education lectures, has been "occupied" since last Thursday as part of the ongoing student strike, and a bunch of my lectures/seminars have been canceled because of strike or sickness, which so far is mostly awesome, though not for the sick lecturers, obviously (GET BETTER SOON!).
For something that might actually be of interest to anyone but me and, like, my parents, LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT'S ON TV! (Or not, as the case may be. Is it really hiatus time again? HIATUS TIME SUCKS.)
Stargate: Universe
I... really have
nothing new to say about it. I wanted to love it so much, and I've been watching all the eps so far and am going to watch this week's, too, in a sort of last-ditch effort, but it's just not doing it for me. I read a review somewhere that commented on how they'd taken Stargate-level scripts, bled them of all humor, and added some shaky camera work and color filters in the hope it would make them Battlestar Galactica, which, basically, yeah. It's not like SGA (and presumably SG-1, too, though I've never seen it) didn't have its issues, but it feels like they basically left everything that did work about that series by the wayside. The dialogue isn't funny, the characters aren't grabbing me, and for something that's supposedly a "character-driven drama" they sure don't seem to put a lot of effort into the actual dynamics (for anything that's not Chloe/Eli/Scott or Young/Emily/Telford, that is). I spend pretty much every minute of every episode wanting to punch Rush in the face, and I'm not even going to talk about the slightly problematic way the show handles Greer and James, who is supposed to be SPECIAL FORCES, for fuck's sake, and yet apparently not needed on away teams or even kept in the loop on military matters okay fine I am not going to talk about it. Or the bodyswap stones. Or the HAVING SEX WHILE INHABITING SOMEONE ELSE'S BODY AND THEN NEVER ADDRESSING THAT. Sigh.
White Collar
Moving on to something awesome! I am basically so charmed by this show. SO CHARMED! BY ESSENTIALLY EVERYTHING! I love Neal and I love Peter and I love Elizabeth and I would very much enjoy reading that fiction about how the three of them finally got their act together and got polygamously married. Or naked. Your pick. Even though the combined hotness of Matthew Bomer and Tiffani Thiessen may, quite frankly, break the screen. (I love that Tim DeKay, who is, of course, a perfectly handsome man, is the funny-looking one in this threesome.)
Criminal Minds
I wonder whether Morgan replacing Hotch as team leader was planned originally or something that got slapped together when Shemar Moore had his accident (Ed Bernero would probably like to store the rest of his cast in those inflatable hamster balls, at this point) but either way, I'm kinda loving it. It's totally enough to make me forgive having an entire episode about people's eyes getting scooped out (UGH UGH UGH). And then they brought back one of the creepiest UnSubs, you know, EVER, for last week's episode! What's up, Carl Arnold, I hope that hideous prison beard becomes sentient and chokes you in your sleep. Also, while I'm by no means an authority on the subject or even necessarily very aware, I have to say I so enjoy the way this show handles women and minorities, just in general; even (especially) when the serial killers are female.
That is not even all, oh man, there's still Merlin and Big Love spoilers (IS IT JANUARY YET?) and OH! I watched Generation Kill, but I've already been typing this entry for about a hundred years, so that's gonna have to come later. FLIST! I've missed you! Let me give you a hug. ♥
