On Friday I went to Berkeley to see my mouse shine in her moment of glory. I haven't seen her in a month and half so I was thrilled, pacing with excitement even as I sat on the train coasting along towards my destination. She drove up with her mom to whom I only met briefly the last time and so that made me rather nervous. I silently prayed that that first meeting had made a good impression with her mom. Yeah, I will admit I was nervous because I would be completely surrounded by not only her family but old friends and other relatives this time. I was worried for nothing tho her mom welcomed me in with open arms, called me an asshole a few times during the weekend, cooked the most awesome spaghetti I ever ate, told me if she won on her horse would give me some money (laughs), and told me at the end that I was welcomed back. Her brother got drunk and was carried home and we laughed as he told us that mixing clear with dark was NOT a good idea.
On Saturday we laid in bed till her mom called us lazy and even then we mostly lounged under the covers while her mom talked with us as she sat at the foot of the bed. At about noon we started getting ready for the big event and we each took our turns showering and dressing. I of course coming from East Side dressed in a three piece pinstripe suit, black tie, off white silk shirt and my favorite pimp hat. My mouse had a suede jacket, striped blouse and black pants on that fit her like a glove. It took a lot not to molest her as I zipped her in. Her mom was dressed in all black with cute lil ankle boots on that she was sure we were lying to her about looking cute in them.
We listened to my mp3 in her car and all three of us bumped to the music tho her mom laughed at me about doing the whole east side head bobbing thing. From there we I met several more of her cousins. Two of them I was happy to see I already knew so it was good to have at least two familiar faces nearby. All of them greeted me as if I was part of the family and chatted with me throughout the dinner.
And because this is all about my mouse... this is what this whole event is about...
Mouse was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for her high school because of her life accomplishments. Of 12 inductees she was the only woman between the years of 1957 and 2000. Of all the ones that have been put in the hall of fame she is one of four women on the wall. Here are some of her accomplishments thus far:
Varsity Track 95/95
All ACAL Track 1996
North Coast Section - 100m champion 1996
Nor Cal Conference Champion - 100m, 200m 1997
1st Junior College female to double in 100m & 200m - 1997
State Champion - 100m & 200m 1997
Bay Valley champion - 100m & 200m 1998
All American Honors - Humboldt State 1999
Track Coach SW Mississippi Community College - 2009
As you can see, it was not for nothing she was put in. I was honored to be included in this great moment of her life. I was so happy for her I thought I was going to explode even tho I made fun of her for being nervous and wringing her hands as her name got closer to being announced and how she teared up as she thanked her family and the committee. I didn't want to tell her that had it been me I probably would have puked shortly after being given the mic when I got up there. I don't do well with stage fright despite my outgoing personality. *grins*
She's an amazing women and I sing praises (not literally lol) to the gods every day that she is mine in both heart and soul.
