We had a tour guide for the wandering around today -- he was quite good -- showed us a lot of stuff we would never have seen otherwise. Nice guy too, except he had a kind of a hate on for Muslims. An Armenian Catholic. He told us the story of his grandfather, who had 3 sons, all doctors, all killed by the Turks. The grandfather was forced to convert to Islam, and pretended to be a Muslim. While he lived in Turkey in the guise of a Muslim, according to our tour guide, his grandfather murdered 29 Muslims, as vengeance for his dead sons, and hid their bodies in a well near his house. Eventually, he got a visa to leave the country in order to perform the Hajj, but moved to Jerusalem instead and never returned, and sent a letter back to Turkey telling them to look in the well... in Jerusalem he remarried and had 12 more children.

My theory is that Canada's greatest strength (as well as perhaps it's most striking weakness) is that virtually no-one gives a damn about its history.
