Fun times and good people

Two things highlighted my weekend: going to a fondue restuarant for the first time, and catching up with my cousin Heather after 15 years.

I went Saturday night with Luke and Kym to the Melting Pot in Dupont Circle.  It was so much fun!  It's usually a really expensive restaurant, but thanks to Restaurant Week, we got a full meal for $30 each.  Such a good deal.  So many wonderful flavors and taste combinations.

Then, yesterday, I met up with Heather.  She lives about an hour away from me, but this is the first time that we've gotten together.  We were inseparable when we were little, and still great friends for a while.  But then my family stopped speaking to all of our extended family and we didn't talk for a very, very long time.

I had a really hard time figuring out what we should do.  Most of my cousins are strict mormons.  So I thought, we can't go get coffee, we can't go out to drink....in the end we just met up for lunch.  We talked for a very long time and discovered that neither one of us has been to church in a long time, we don't consider ourselves mormon, we both drink coffee AND alcohol.  We are the rebels of the family (along with Luke).  As Heather said, "I got pregnant at 17...that should have been your first clue."

So we went out for drinks in the evening.  I WENT OUT FOR DRINKS WITH MY COUSIN!!!!  I still cannot get over this.  At one point Heather turned around and burst out, "I'm so glad that you're normal!"  That pretty much sums it up.  Hooray!  I have someone in my extended family that I can talk to.  It's so amazing.
