On the note, in ELA class, we're learning about Greek Myths. I was jumping for joy kinda overreacting, aren't I. I mean come on, it's Mythology. Who doesn't love learning how the earth was made?
Well, anyway. We were assigned to make our own myth. I did how the red rose came to be. I let some people read it and they said it was sad and they just wanna cry. I'll post it here.
The Blood within the Rose
A lone girl stood behind the column. Her auburn hair gently flowing with the wind. She was watching as a young man makes a request to the goddess of the temple, the goddess of Love, Aphrodite.
“Oh great Aphrodite, please help me with my love. Please let me know that she loves me too,” he prayed.
The girl’s heart clenched. ‘Who could he possibly love?’ her mind thought.
The young man stood up as he finished his praying. The girl hid behind the column, but unfortunately, she dropped her basket full of fruits, thus making a noise in the almost deserted temple. She panicked and didn’t know what to do. She silently prayed to the gods that he wouldn’t notice.
“Who’s there?” he called out, clearly hearing the noise.
She held her breath. She could not risk being seen. What if he gets the wrong impression on why she was here? She heard footsteps coming towards her direction. Not thinking of a more effective way to avoid him, she quickly but silently moved to another place.
When he looked behind the column where he thought the noise came from, he only found a spilled basket on the floor. He was a little bit disappointed, but he did not know why. He sighed and picked up the basket, then proceeded to go back to the entrance of the temple.
The girl couldn’t hear anything anymore, released a silent relieved sigh and walked from she was hiding. She peered left and right to see if the young man still there. Seeing that she didn’t see anyone, she went to retrieve her basket.
“Oh, hello there,” she turned around and saw him smiling at her. Her heart skipped a beat and she could feel the blood rushing to her face.
“H-hello,” she managed to stammer out.
“May I ask if this basket is yours?” he held the basket up from his hand.
She flushed a little bit more and said, “Y-yes.”
Her heart skipped a beat again, even though it was already pounding hard. She took the basket from his hand and mumbled a small, “thank you.”
“My name is Agaton. May I ask yours?” he asked.
“I-I’m Kalika,” she said to him.
He chuckled lightly, “You should be more careful next time, Kalika.”
He smiled again and bid her goodbye, and then proceeded to exit the holy building.
She watched him as he went out of her sight. Watching his fleeting figure, she was sure that Eros’ arrow pierced her heart again.
Putting a hand over her fast beating heart, she tried to calm it down. After calming it down, she prayed a small prayer and left the temple.
“May your wish come true,” she prayed quietly.
Unknown to her the goddess Aphrodite was watching the girl the whole time and pitied her. As much as Aphrodite wants to help her, but she couldn’t interfere with true love between two lovers.
The next day, Kalika saw Agaton by the riverside where she usually sit and think, but with another woman. They were sitting by a large rock beside the riverbank. She hid behind one of the far trees, but not far enough to not hear them. They were talking among themselves and didn’t seem to notice any noises.
“Oh my sweet Eunice, I love you. Will you marry me?”
Kalika gasped silently, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
“Oh Agaton!” Eunice put her hand over mouth and tears came out from her eyes.
“Yes, yes, yes, Yes!” She exclaimed. Agaton stood up from his seat and jumped for joy. They both were chuckling and hugging each other.
Among the shadows, Kalika’s tears began to fall and soon, her feet took her away from the happy scene and led her to tree where one white rose blooms by its roots. She kneeled down and cried, cried and cried until she could not shed any more tears.
“No, I should not be crying,” she began. “I should be happy. He has found his happiness. I should be happy for him.”
She tries to convince herself, but to no avail. She couldn’t accept it. She loved him, but she couldn’t take the pain. She should have accepted this. She knew this going to happen. With one last try, she finally accepted it, but she wanted to end her suffering.
Finding a sharp rock from her side, she put it above her chest.
“I hope you will be happy with her,” she whispered silently.
With one stab to her heart, a lone droplet of blood dropped on the rose and quickly spread everywhere on the flower. She lay on the ground with a thud and slowly her eyes closed, smiled, and thought, ‘My wish came true.’
Aphrodite sighed. She wished that she could have helped her, but it was the Fates’ decision and she doesn’t have any say in the inevitable.
She went to where Kalika lays and put the dead girl’s head on her lap.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I’m so sorry.”
For the first time, the goddess of love cried, and the only witness was the lone red rose who continued bloomed sadly.
Don't know if this counts as a fanfic though.
Anyways, See ya
