'Umiamaka
‘Umiamaka was a lesser chief who was remembered for his deceitful actions. He once brought a lobster as a gift to the father of a girl he wished to have. The father gave his consent, and the couple departed. On opening the lobster, the father found it full of sand. ‘Umiamaka’s name has come down as meaning a deceiver, and the quotation (Ka inoa ua hala o ‘Umiamaka ma, eia no ka - we thought that ‘Umiamaka them were gone, but they are still here!) is still used in referring to a deceitful action.
Hewa ka i'a a 'Umiamaka, he okea loko. Da ingalish....Wrong was the "fish" of 'Umiamaka for it had sand inside.
This was used referring to anything bad or when someone deceived another. 'Umiamaka was a young trickster who wanted the daughter of a particular guy who like to eat labstah. But, this man wouldn't let his daughter go w/ a fisherman, so what 'Umiamaka did, he wen fill up da labstah shell w/ sand. He gave um to da guy and the guy was happy so he allowed his daughter to go w/ 'Umiamaka. Later the man realized that it was filled w/ sand and said those words (hewa ka i'a a 'Umiamaka, he okea loko).
