Satisfy My Curiosity

I keep hearing in the news that large numbers of voters are favoring Hillary over Obama out of concerns regarding his level of experience. I'm beginning to think these voters are all journalists, mainly because I haven't met anyone who's actually expressed this concern ( Read more... )

It's pretty funny coz' Obama has been in an elected office for 12 years (first for 10 years in the IL state senate, and now in the US senate for 2 years; not to mention that before that, he was a civil rights lawyer and other good stuff), and Hillary has for only for 6 years and change. It seems to me like their level of experience, though different, is relatively comparable.

I'm more concerned that Hillary has ties to Blackwater. =\

On the one hand, there's a degree of separation. She does business with a guy who does business with Blackwater. On the other, Obama and Edwards have both called for greater oversight over military contractors, while Hillary has not, so this would appear to be a serious concern.

1. I should be so lucky as to hear anyone where I work talking calmly and logically about the Dem side of the race.
1a. Everybody I know outside of work is probably just going to go with whoever their favored party picks, unless they absolutely hate the person, in which case they'll pick him anyway (if they're GOP) or vote third party (if they're not).
2. I'm personally becoming more inclined to start picking candidates with no experience at all, just to get the fossilization and jadedness out of government.

I can count myself fortunate at times like this to be insulated from the world at large in my academic bubble, surrounded almost exclusively by the calm and logical. Most of what I hear over here about the Dem side is that all of the front runners are impressive and promising and people are having trouble deciding which they like best (instead of the usual difficulty over who to despise least). What kinds of shouting matches are you overhearing?

Maybe they are referring more to experience being a center of national attention. Or experience being demonized by the Republican party. I prefer Obama over Hillary, but I also would be fascinated to see how the Republican's religious hatred of her would affect ordinary people if she became the candidate. A lot of Republicans seem to think she's the Antichrist, and have felt that way ever since Bill got elected. Would people tune out the hatred after awhile, react negatively to it, or would they be seduced by it?
