Hi, hola, aloha, greetings, salutations, and well whatever other form of initive communication method you can think of. :)
I am of course Malanthyus, this is my live journal, and if you're reading this, that means you've really got too much time on your hands. Because i hope to tell you, you're not going to find anything important here.
No prophetic ravings of a madman. No revolutionary expositions on the human condition. Hells bells freind, we're not even going to talk about setting people on fire here.

.................

Oh dear, you're still here aren't you? *sigh*

Okay, since you're so so determined to stick around feel free to listen, and try to keep up. I can assure you, my thinking never truly follows a straight path.
For this moment of your attention span, let me say the word "addiction". The effect of having your continued well being revolve around or at least become dependent upon a substance, or other form of input into your body.
What I'd like to ask is, why do they only warn people about the addictions they don't like them to have? Or at least that aren't profitable to the individuals or conglomerates in charge of advertising and the DEA?
There are a thousand things other than the listed drugs and alchoholic substances that people take into themselves every moment of every day.
Though i suppose we should try to seperate out what i truly mean by an "addiction" or "addictive". Forgoing for a moment the body's physical requirements for nutrition, and the human mind's standing need for companionship, let's take a look at some things that don't quite fall into these categories or into the category of "addictive narcotic substances*.
Games. No it's not a physical addiction and i can already here the protests of people that have experienced the long hard road of rehab from narcotic substances, informing all of us in detail just how "minor" such an "addiction" is by comparison.
That is the truth.
My point being an addiction is still an addiction. Even if it is on a different scale then perhaps others. Case in point, alcholism. It's a recorded fact that some individuals are better on average at "holding there liquor" then others. One beer gives one man a small buzz, at the other extreme is a fellow thats plastered after half a can.
The same is true of some peoples susceptibility to addictive, well, let's call them "influences". One person can play a game for a few minutes, like it extremely, then suddenly realize they have another appointment they have to keep. The other end of the spectrum being the poor kid that plays the same game for the same amount of time, realizes where he's supposed to be, then realized he's already having the greatest experience of his life, and probably won't stop to so much as take in food.
Summary you ask? An addiction is still an addiction. It still damages the individual in question, and society in general. In this like so many other things, we all live by a dual standard. Until we acknowledge all of the addictions out there, we'll never be able to truly deal with any of them.

So, to end this, I'll just say thanks, and I'll go back to playing FFXI, i've almost got 9000gil now and i'm just a few xp from being a summoner....
