I ate something today that might sound disgusting, but seriously, it's some of the best food I ever ate.
I heard about an avocado and grapefruit salad on some cooking show, and I thought, "ew," but then I kept thinking about it over the past few weeks, and finally I had to try making it. It's supposed to be avocado slices, grapefruit segments (removed from their skin) and a vinaigrette, so I whisked up the only vinaigrette recipe I know (the one I use whenever I make salad dressing, which isn't often, because I don't ever eat the salad fixings before they go bad, so I don't often make salad at home) but I wanted to try this salad, so I dumped some lime juice, olive oil, course ground mustard, salt, and cayenne pepper into a bowl, then I broke up the avocado into the bowl, and plopped in the grapefruit segments, then I mixed it all together and started eating...
OMG it was AMAZING. Seriously, I can't even describe how good it was. Yes, almost every ingredient in this salad makes the roof of my mouth swell and sometimes bleed. No, I don't care. It tasted so good. I want to make this again.
Later today, I'm going to eat some steak pieces marinated in red wine, chopped onion, and minced garlic. I feel like such a gourmet.
Maybe I'll make this meal for my birthday. I was trying to think of something special to make that day. It's swiftly approaching (the 8th of September) and to be honest with you, I always find birthdays depressing. Christmas, too (probably this year will be harder than the rest) but I always feel kind of lonely and sad on my birthday. It's one of those things that's a holdover from growing up in a dysfunctional family (dysfunctional doesn't even really cover it). It's not like I ever really had a normal birthday (whatever that means; I just never had the whole presents and a cake and people celebrating the day I was born like it's a good thing) and now that I'm getting old and decrepit it makes things even worse. I miss something I never had, I guess, if that makes sense. I'm approaching the dreaded 3-0 (this year I'm going to hit the dreaded 2-8). :-p I already have the day off, so I don't have to ask for the time off or anything. I think I'll make myself some steak too, on my birthday, because I really love steak and it will give me something to look forward to. If any of you want to send me a million dollars to cheer me up, that would help, too (JUST KIDDING THIS IS A JOKE A JOKE AND NOT SERIOUS PLEASE DO NOT START DRAMA).
Cat owners on my flist, is there a dry cat food you can feed your cat that it will enjoy? Bella can't eat canned food because it makes her gak, and she can't eat human food (because it makes her gak) so I can't put chicken stock or broth on the dry food to make it taste better (yes, I have tried, yes, it made her gak) and she just doesn't like the taste of dried food much, but I'd like to feed her something she likes. I kind of want to chuck her off the balcony today because she's being a holy terror (she knocked the fan out of the window twice and knocked a bunch of pictures off my bookshelf while fleeing in terror) but she just winked at me a second ago and it reminded me that I love the cute little furrball. She's purring like a motorboat next to me on the bed and it's adorable. But she keeps biting my butt, and she already bit a huge hole in my favorite pair of pants, so I have moved back to kind of wanting to kill her again.
I love The Golden Girls. They're on in the other room and I totally keep laughing my ass off. Even years later, this show is hilarious.
