Misa hadn't been expecting a visitor. The blonde turned as she heard her door open, surprised, but saw that it was just two other patients, and relaxed. The girl smiled cheerfully, shaking her head as the brunette boy apologized.

"No, don't worry! It's not like I was doing anything!" she said. However, the boy did say something that got her attention; Haruhi.

The Haruhi? Haruhi Suzumiya? The Haruhi that Light had mentioned to her?

"...Brigade Chief?" she questioned brightly, waving hesitantly to the brunette girl. "I'm Misa Amane. It's nice to meet you!"

Haruhi didn't really notice--or care--that she had barged into another patient's room. "Sorry abou that," she said airily, not really looking to see whose room it was. She had started to turn around when the girl spoke to them, and Misa Amane's words struck a cord.

"Misa Amane?!" she exclaimed, spinning around again, looking delighted. Misa was famous after all...and she had agreed to join the Brigade. Haruhi moved forward, extending her hand for Misa to shake.

"It's great to meet you! I'm Haruhi Suzumiya, and this guy behind me is Kyon," she said, inclining her head at the indicated brunette.

“Sorry, sorry…” Kyon continued, one hand moving up behind to the back of his head, rubbing it and bowing lightly, smiling broadly at the beautiful blonde and starting to back out with Haruhi when the exit is horribly marred.

Gah! Wait! They know each other? Misa?! That’s right, she did mention it last night, but… but! Kyon continues to stare at the two of them as they exchange greetings, his spirits plummeting. This woman definitely looks prettier than most celebrities I’ve seen on T.V! This really could be Misa Amane! No good, no good! This is more attention!

Kyon’s own name brought him back as he’s introduced with such a flat tone, his scowl springing back to be directed at his fellow brunette’s head. Stop, wait! I wish you wouldn’t keep introducing me by my nickname all the time! However he couldn’t voice such thoughts in front of the new girl who was apparently already a member of the Brigade, “Miss Amane, correct? Ah… are you sure you know what you’re getting yourself into? An amused smile appeared on the face of the young idol, and she shook her head once again. "I think I'll be okay. After all, I need some fun and excitement! It's boring around here!"

She had to get close to Haruhi...and her friends, if they all thought the same. Something was different about the boy following her, though; he seemed...more cynical, and more likely to judge Kira as a criminal. Maybe she could figure out what the two thought first, and then choose whether or not they both could stay.

"So, what were you two up to? Find anything interesting?" she asked.

A delighted smile spread across Haruhi's face at Misa's words, feeling very distinctly as if she had made the right choice in allowing her to join the Brigade. "You're right, Misa! It's so boring around here..."

At the question, the brunette teenager blinked, as if she had forgotten what she and her classmate had been doing. "Oh, well...we haven't found anything yet," she started, holding her head a little higher, looking sure of herself, "but we will. There's bound to be tons of interesting things, or people, in this old place!"

Listening to the two of them agree Kyon's head hangs once more, an exasperated sigh leaving his lips. Sure she's pretty, but if she agrees with Haruhi so quickly... I'm not a cat with nine lives! Are all the women here going to be insa-... no wait, that’s a poor choice of words, but people know what I mean.

His head lifts up and Kyon's voice intones flatly, reminding Haruhi from behind as if to deflate her moment of glory, "One strike down, don't forget."

His eyes wander to Misa, and then quickly to the window before he's caught staring... by either of them. Could he be blamed? Please, if there is a any pity for me in this universe don't let her find anything interesting so we can make lunch. “Ah well, so you know what Haruhi’s Brigade does? You don't find it unusual?”

"Hmm? Unusual? C'mon...Kyon," Misa said, punching the boy lightly on the arm, acting as she normally did, "There're stranger things in the world! Besides, I think she's got the right idea! You can't just live normally at the time! It gets boring!"

Misa's life had never been boring, of course, but she loved excitement. In a place like Malaise, she needed all of the thrill she could get...

"That's the right attitude, Misa!" the brunette said, grinning widely at the blonde idol. "You sound like a much better member than Kyon...he bet me that I couldn't find anything weird around here."

Shooting the boy a dirty look, the Brigade Chief sighed dramatically, turning back to the other girl. "So, you want to come with us? We could use more Brigade members hanging around!"

Kyon can’t help but return a blank stare at the Idol, his mouth hanging open in surprise, “U-unusual? We’re talking about aliens, time-travelers and espers here…I-I’d think that was more than out of this world… well one of those would come from a different world actually. I just…” Kyon’s head shakes, “…just do as you please.”

Am I going to be with two Haruhi’s? One is more than enough! Subconsciously he flinches as Haruhi’s glare grazes him, his feet making him take a step backward as if to somehow avoid the look, his cheeks maintaining the light pink coloring and a glower passes over his features, quickly counter attacking “If I’m such a poor member stop making me do last minute things like edit together our festival film. And you still have yet to find anything really unusual… finding another person here doesn’t really count unless she happens to be an alien.”

“You’re not one are you?” he asks flippantly to the Idol, golden eyes directed at Misa with a small smile.

Misa laughed, stifling it slightly with her hand. "Of course not, silly!" she said, shaking her head at the brunette, her pigtails bouncing back and forth. "I'm just a totally normal human being. What about you? Are you an alien, time-traveler...or a Shinigami? Something weird like that?"

She was joking, to them. The question was seemingly innocuous.

"A Shinigami?! What...you mean, like a death god?" Haruhi asked, her eyes wide with excitement. Obviously, Misa Amane was a high-class supernatural invesgtigator. Or...at least, she knew something about this stuff. Haruhi was pleased with this addition to the Brigade, and leaned in closer, rapt with attention.

"You've never met anything like that, have you?" the brown-haired teen asked quickly.

The corner of Kyon’s lips move upward in a smile at the blonde’s response, his mouth opening to answer the question only to reverse the smile into a frown at Haruhi’s sudden overbearing interest, “H-hey Haruhi! Hold on, of course she hasn’t, she was just joking!”

Kyon’s hand reaches out to clasp Haruhi’s shoulder, pulling her back away from the model or at least hold her back from getting too close during her questions, his other hand holding his hand sideways in a sign of apology to Misa, “You’ll have to excuse her eccentric behavior sometimes.” The golden eye boy’s frown struggles to return back into a forced smile. “Ah-ha, of course we’re not any such strange things.” Haruhi! Don’t start wishing for such frightful creatures! I’m telling you I’m still mortal!

"Oh, well...actually, I have," Misa admitted, a slow, teasing smile appearing on her face. She was telling the truth, of course, but wasn't really aware of what the consequences would be if Haruhi Suzumiya was made aware of supernatural beings. After all, Misa's only intention was do to what Light had said.

"You wouldn't ever believe me, though, since we're in...well, this place," the idol said casually, shrugging her shoulders.

"You-..." Haruhi started, but stopped herself. "...Can you prove it?" the brunette asked sharply, narrowing her amber gaze slightly. She didn't completely distrust Misa, but anyone could claim to have come into contact with an otherworldy being. After all, she herself had been looking for strange and mysterious things forever, so how could a busy model find one so quickly?!

Kyon felt his heart plummet inside of his chest, causing a heavy knot to form in his stomach. Of course she doesn’t know Kyon! But… Ignoring the feeling of a droplet of sweat suddenly finding it’s way down his spine he forced a laugh out, his hand slipping off of Haruhi’s shoulder to rub at the back of his head again, pausing for time as his mind races “That’s true. It’s hard to believe the claims of everyone in here…”

The pang of despair loosened its hold on his blood flow, the normal speed of his heart resuming again as he heard the tone of distrust within Haruhi’s voice, perhaps even disbelief or even jealousy. “I’m sure it’s rather hard to show proof of something like that Haruhi, right Miss Amane?"
