The smell of burnt heater had finally fled the confines of his office, though he was still burning candles to keep the musty air at bay, plus he had to admit a certain fondness for the sight of those flickering flames. Really, it could be a rather disconcerting addiction.
A book was spread out in front of him on the desk, a pad of paper resting to his left, occasionally scrawling a note or two here and there from the book, underlining several phrases over and over for emphasis. His desk was decorated modestly, the most recent decoration to join the few pieces was a glass vase holding several blue and white folded flowers; a very precious gift indeed.
His door was left open, waiting for the patient he had agreed to meet for a talk.
