Summary: She's still not his patient, but he hopes his past hasn't ruined where he stands with her
Day/Time: 71, late morning
It felt like things were crumbling around his feet. First Mao revealing his name and past and then Alfred ended up telling Steve what they'd been up to last night. Balthier somehow kept himself from imitating Genesis's temper tantrum and simply swore under his breath in a mixture of languages. The pirate's back was stiff, his shoulders and neck visibly tense. In minutes, the trust he'd worked to build with several people had shattered. Some of it was his fault, most of it was not. Telling himself that barely calmed him down.
He took slow steps across his apartment floor and massaged his own temples. Why now, of all times? People needed him to be Balthier the therapist, not Balthier the pirate or Ffamran the former executioner. Several more slow breaths still did nothing.
If anyone saw him now, they'd be convinced he really was human after all, not some alien pile of hope and optimism.
