Thanks to a suggestion from
allochthon and the fact that Sunday was an incredibly warm day for March in Minnesota, I now have a bright red cubby hole in my basement. Once I take the tape off, I'm sure it will look gorgeous around my new blindingly white shelving unit from IKEA. The only serious drawback is that it's made me very unhappy about the rest of the walls in the room - they're all kinda off-white/off-light blue with huge shadows where the previous residents posters blocked the nicotine. Sadly, now that our day of grace is over and it's back to cold, windy and snowing, I can't go on a painting rampage without suffocating or (allegedly) blowing up my water heater and boiler. If only the paint didn't need to be warmer than 40 degrees in order to dry.
I was completely unprepared for how disturbing the cleanup would be. There's just something about watching large amounts of blood red liquid going down the drain... It didn't appreciably get better as it faded to vaguely pinkish water - it still kept making me want to obsessively count my fingers.
