Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.
We pretend immortality because admitting otherwise would give people ideas. Yet it doesn't keep us alive. Another round of secrets lost to unplanned death. I begin to wonder if I should write down advice for future generations. "Avoid sea wars with Rebma. Keep track of how you built things you might need to rebuild later. Always know the route to a second exit before entering a building. Don't seek out shadows of worshippers without a solid goal in mind."
I doubt the theoretical future generations would listen. Current ones have shown minimal ability to learn from history.
