As promised, I am posting about The Amazing Race tonight. If you do not want to be spoiled, do not look under the cut.
Why, oh why, are all the really good and sympathetic teams Philiminated first? First to go are the promising Avi and Joe, then Maria and Meredith last episode (which I still haven't seen). And now, Lena and Kristy! Why?!
You have to admire Lena for her dedication. As Phil said, she was out there for more than eight hours unrolling bales of hay. They arrived at the roadblock in third place. While they were there, they saw six teams find the clue and leave. It was horrible luck that Lena unrolled over 100(!) bales of hay without finding a clue. And it must have been so frustrating for Kristy to have to stand there and only encourage her sister and not be able to help. Lena did not give up, despite being exhausted and sore. What a different example they show than a certain team from last season who quit because they knew they were last. Lena and Kristy did not deserve to be eliminated, but they didn't quit no matter what. They certainly have my respect and admiration. Good job.
As far as the rest of the teams go, I think Kris/Jon and Hayden/Aaron are the two strongest and will probably make the final three. I guess I'll probably cheer for Kris and Jon now that my favorite team has been eliminated by a regretful Phil. Jon is from the Phoenix valley, and that's as good a reason as any to cheer on a team, I suppose.
I laughed when Bolo was counting in the beginning: "62, 64, 66, 68, 80." The camera then swung to an IKEA employee, whose expression was priceless.
Jonathan continues to enjoy the luck of the evil. He disturbs me in a serious way. I wish to devote no more journal space to the creep.
Adam and Rebecca were kind of non-entities this episode. They were near the end of the pack, but they did okay.
Gus and Hera did pretty well. They ran a smart leg overall. They need to keep on doing that in order to stave off elimination. I'm starting to like them more and more. However, what was with the handshake at the mat? You're father and daughter! It's okay to hug!
The grandparents really lucked out that Lena had so much trouble with the hay bales. I thought for sure that they were going to be eliminated. I hate to say it, but I would have preferred them going rather than Lena and Kristy. Ah well. I expect they will be eliminated soon, and I will be sad to see them go when they do.
I think it was good of Freddy to encourage Lena and give her advice. He told her "It's easy to find, Lena," referring to the clue in the hay bales. Admittedly, it didn't help her any, but it was good of him to offer it nonetheless. He and Kendra arrived well after Lena and Kristy, so he knew they should have been ahead of him.
So, it was a sad episode all in all. Maybe I'll watch the CBS morning show tomorrow to see what Lena and Kristy have to say about their elimination.
And that is that.
Lastly, why is it so cold in Phoenix? We live in a desert, for pete's sake. It's not supposed to get this cold this soon. Humph.
