So I have been researching and Mals age is frustratingly inconsistent, somehow he has three different dates listed! Im going with March 27, 2486 for Mal then than makes:
  - Mal 31
  - Zoe 29
  - Simon 27
  - River 17 (this is believable since she was already 14 when the Academy first

Thank you so much for clarifying that, I hadn't realized that at all!

I have been going crazy trying to guess Inara's age from something so vague. She didn't strike me as That much older than River in the pilot, I had put her at closer to 19...21 at the most. Her training (I think) gives her that composure that makes her seem older than she really is.

If you add in Nandi's, who looks much older than Inara but that could be because of age or a harder life after leaving the training house, mysterious comment about Inara not aging 26-28 sounds about right. Somehow her being older or even AS old as Zoe seems off so 28 is the oldest I feel she could be but thats still pushing it for me. She just seems so Young in the pilot!

How about a compromise? Inara and Simon are the same age?

Inara comes off as more worldly and mature than Simon but nowhere near where Zoe is. Of course Zoe has gone through so much more than Inara...but so has Simon when you think about it. Eh I could ramble on and on about this!

Yeah, they've had such drastically different life experiences that it's really hard to compare them that way. I would agree to Inara being around the same age as Simon. Mid to late 20s seems about right for her.
I hadn't ever really thought about everyone's relative ages, but it is interesting to speculate on. :-)
