She was eating an unlabeled protein dinner, her hair falling into the food only to be whisked away by her hand in an instant. She saw that he was looking at her and offered him her awkward and freakish smile that sort of formed her face before looking back at her meal; he could still see the little specks of her bright eyes peeking through her long raven colored ringlets. This poor girl, who had been torture to insanity by the alliance made him want to kill each and everyone of those gorram Alliance members with his bare hands.
The fact that it was actually legal for this totalitarian government to do this made his stomach churn. This along with many others had been why he had fought for The Independence. Those who had fought for Unification, had supported had been in a word scared. Scared of change, scared to be more than everyone else. It sickened him. He couldn’t even begin to imagine what she had been through in her short seventeen year life.
“You can’t just put needles in my eyes and ask me to kill” she said tears welling in her voice and eyes. Simon rushed to her side to comfort her and he still just watched.
“River, river it’s all right” Simon cooed as he held his sister. “It’s all right mei-mei”
“It’s not right what they say, one and one don’t make twelve” and she began to sob hard and full. Wet globs of tears running down her face, she looked so scared and lost and he just wanted to hold the way her brother did. He wanted to coddle her and tell everything would be fine. But he was the captain and it wouldn’t be proper and it wasn’t his place. He could never tell her that he…
“Love burns like a fire into space,” she said calmly “makes everything hot and sticky and then it gets cold and lifeless. No point. No Point.”
“Finally, the quiet non crying crazy” he said standing “That’s somethin’ I can live with. G’night y’all” He walked to the entrance of the hall way and glanced back at her. Their eyes caught.
“No point” she said and he nodded and left. She was right, there really was no point.
