Operation Backlog: Alundra

Nov 30, 2012 23:51

So, right now I have decided to start working through my backlog, one game at a time, in Alphabetical Order by console, starting with PS1. The first game was a Zelda alike called Alundra. It was one of those obscure titles Working Designs brought across in 1997. It was also the first title from Matrix Software, who later developed the DS remakes of Final Fantasy 3 and 4.

The story was pretty good, if a bit dark, and remarkably well told. And overall the gameplay was fun. What wasn't fun were some ridiculous pixel perfect jumping puzzles that made me want to eat the developers young. It also seemed rather unintuitive, though that may be because newer games often take great pains to show you where to go. It's a good game where the old 'talk to everyone rule applies'. Lots of hidden things, though it's a little easy to sequence break, and finishing the gilded falcons side quest makes the rest of the game a joke. Overall, fun, but I wouldn't say it's for everyone.

Also, the roulette can just go right to hell.
