Interesting Things

One of the places we visited was the Polynesian Cultural Center. While a lot of it was tourist spiel there were interesting things to learn about the cultural differences between islands. If I remember correctly it was Samoa, Figi, New Zealand (Aoteroa), Hawaii, Tonga and Tahiti.
The languages and dancing were all very similar and very mixed up in European and North American minds. The hula dance with grass skirts, for example, is really Tahitian. The Hawaiian one is a much more gentle version of the hip swinging. But the roots of all Polyneasian people is very obvious with the simularities, dress and tattoes. The story telling within the Hawaiian dancing is particularly beautiful. And of course the Maori Haka is always memorable. There is something about the rhythm of that one which gets you somewhere deep.
We didn't stay for the Luau because we'd been to one the night before, but in some ways I regret that, because even though the one we went to was very good, this one would have been better, I think because there was a real story to the whole show. Plus the fact the eye candy was phenomenal *g*.

Anyway, I don't think I have walked so much in years. I felt very unfit from the cabin fever back home where I can't even ride my horse it is so cold. The sea air is definitely good for making one sleep, not to mention all the extra exercise. My hair even went curly in the wind and air. It is going to be hard getting back to reality.
