btw umm spoilers for daybreakers. lol

this is what a master procrastinator does:

1. wakes up at 10

2. checks email, FB, other email, omona, suju flist, sapphirepearls

3. watches 30 min. of ESPN-covered FIFA pregame show.

4. watches the whole korea vs. nigeria match

5. watches 30 min. of ESPN-covered FIFA postgame show.

6. cleans kitchen

before finally FINALLY working on her g-damn paper. gets hungry and pissed after 6 hrs of work to see her progress to ONE CRAPTASTIC PAGE. then

7. goes downstairs for dinner

8. watches daybreakers with dad while eating dinner

9. writes a review of daybreakers that wastes away what could've been decent hours for writing the paper

the plot was interesting and it had the potential to be great, but how the vampire population started and how the movie ended were disappointing. apparently the vampire population started with one bat. ONE. FUCKING. BAT. WHAT THE FUCK. having such an absurd monster myth as the basis for the futuristic vampire society didn't mix well with me. i am legend, at least, had a good premise: it all started with what was supposed to be the cure for cancer. BUT A BAT? WTF NO. 28 days/weeks later only had the "rage" virus. the zombies from zombieland was the effect from mad cow. if the writers didn't have a good realistic cause for vampires then they at shouldn't have given a history at all. the 2004 remake of dawn of the dead and shaun of the dead didn't even give reasons for the outbreak and just went along with the story. and those were great zombie movies. BATS. NO.

the vampires had no reflection in the mirror, too. UMMWHAT. that is just stupid. that's like making a zombie movie with slow-moving zombies. remember dawn of the dead? 28 days later? 28 weeks later? those motherfuckers were upgraded, fast, smart, vicious. that's what made them hella scary. but having another ridiculous vamp myth was retarded. i mean, it would've been acceptable IF IT WAS A PLOT DEVICE. james bond, ethan hunt and superhero movies had parts about their weapons/objects/powers because that was what was going to save their asses. not having a reflection would have been an interesting tool for the vamp police and soldiers but the movie didn't even use it for anything. THERE WAS NO POINT. it was just a quirk given by the writers, but nothing more. they might as well have written the vamps' weakness of garlic and their ability to turn into fucking bats (there were bats all over the fucking movie, too.)

the start of the movie was interesting though: a little vampire girl commits suicide because she will never grow up and will live forever the way she is. and then there were the vampire kids hanging out in the streets like thugs and smoking cigs like they were harmless (which they were, because their organs don't function anymore anyway). ethan hawke's character himself was a smoker who more or less held a cig between his fingers in every scene until he turned back into a human. as vampires they can't give birth and bring new life into society, so the society will remain the same society. forever. so in that kind of society it makes sense that the suicide rate would be higher, but the movie didn't touch on this point at all. i wish the writers added more scenes about the decay of the population's thoughts on the importance and point of life.

the ending was okay, i guess. spreading the news about the human cure and making those who wanted to live as humans again come forth and come back into light while those who wanted to stay inhumane keep to the dark and refuse the cure. but it would've been great to see the vampire population be returned back to being humans, spreading the human pandemic/cure by having the newly-turned humans eaten by the starving vamps, kind of like how the vamp society started (one is eaten by 10 is eaten by 100), but then that would mean lots of deaths that would reduce half the population, and i don't think that was the point of the story.

the look of the futuristic city was great. the lab where the thousands of human bodies were being drained was so creepy and perfect for the story.

overall: C+ to B-

10. finally, reading some dean/cas fics before going to sleep. (only to wake up the next day and do the whole procrastinating thing all over again).
