When ELF’s started singing Sorry Sorry with Super Junior at Music Bank, they realized all their hardwork had an amazing reward, the nights staying late at dance studio, the everlasting recording sessions and even the small accidents and difficulties they had when filming the MVs; just listening to the fans cheering for them made it all worth it. The new album had an amazing reception and soon enough they were one of the most popular groups in Asia.
But there was a shadow to such happiness, when Kibum anounced he was leaving the group “temporally”, Siwon was one of the most devastated to hear such news; Kibum was one of his best friends and although he held back his tears when all the members were present he couldn’t help but having a mayor breakdown alone in his room. His roomate Heechul wasn’t around, perhaps just drinking with Hankyung, he was really affected also.
A knock on his door, and Kyuhyun was shyly showing from behind the door, like a kid who woke his parents up because of a nightmare. Siwon tried to dry up his tears without success, he stood up from his bed and hugged the maknae as strong as he could without hurting him, crying once again. Kyuhyun didn’t said anything, ¿what was there to say anyway? And hugged the older man back; they stayed like that until Hankyung came back to the dorms asking Kyuhyun and Siwon to help him carry Heechul who couldn’t even walk as he was so drunk.
Siwon was so affected that he practicaly forced Kyuhyun to keep his promise of spending more time with him than with the others, if their manager hadn’t told them they should be at least a little with everyone for the sake of the fanservice, Siwon was pretty sure he would have hand-cuffed the maknae to him; one of his members was gone, he wasn’t going to let that happen with his most valuable friend.
-Damn it Siwon just let him breathe a little! You’ve been hovering over him since I don’t know how long! Heechul said exasperated when Siwon reluctantly let go of Kyuhyun so he could talk to Sungmin and Donghae for a while.
-Hyung, I think you do the same wih Hankyung hyung. He replied smoothly, and instead of answering, Heechul started nagging -What the hell Choi Siwon! You used to be the perfect and respectful dongseng and now listen to you! You hang out with Kyuhyun so much that you're becoming a brat like him! Siwon knew that Heechul wasn’t really angry so he just shook his head in amusement, and that was supposed to be his hyung?
Aside from that, the promotions were a total success, Super Junior was in the clouds and beyond, this led to another tour through Asia, another Super Show. SM decided that there should be more solo songs than before’ ; Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung had their solos guaranteed as the main singers but the directors wanted more and picked Donghae, Leeteuk, Kangin, Heechul, Sungmin and Siwon.
The would each have to pick a song that went well with their voices, in English or Korean and Siwon picked a religious song: “Who am I?”, it was in English so Henry translated it for him and it became one of his favorites; he though it would be perfect. But the problem was that he couldn’t sing it right, he couldn’t tell what it was but it was lacking of something.
-Will you help me with my song hyung? Siwon wasked Donghae hopefully.
-Sorry, i can’t Siwonnie, I can barely get by with my own solo, I don’t want to but, I think I will have to do playback. Donghae said disappointed. But have you thought of asking Kyuhyun?
-Kyuhyun? I don’t know, I mean, he’s my best friend, no offense hyung; but I know how much he hates helping people. Answered Siwon.
-Well yeah, but when it comes to you...who knows? He might come around...pouting reguarly works with him Donghae said with a wink.
And that was how next week, Kyuhyun and Siwon were at the studio getting through the latter’s song, the youngest telling him when to rise or lower his voice and giving him some breathing tips. But Siwon just wasn’t born with the magnificent voice and ease at singing that Kyuhyun had so it was difficult for him. Kyuhyun tried to ignore his bratty and witty nature and was patient with the older but then he became exasperated and decided that, instead of giving Siwon a bunch of advice, he was going to show him how to do it. Half of it was to help Siwon, but the other half was because he liked to show off, just like that.
Regardless of some little mistakes in the pronunciation, his small performance was perfect, once again, the maknae left Siwon open mouthed; then an idea hit him:
-You should sing this song with me in the concerts! The maknae just stared at him with his eyes wide open.
-Ok hyung, I think you’ve had enough for today...you’re so tired you’re saying nonsense.
-I’m serious Kyuhyunnie, you know I don’t have the vocals to pull this song through by myself but if you sing with me...I’m sure ELF’s would love it! Siwon said excitedly.
-Mmm, I don’t know if you’ve realized but it’s a SOLO song, not a duet, you’re supposed to do it by yourself. Besides, I will sing my solo, the group’s songs, Suju-M’s and K.R.Y.’s, if I appear more time on stage the fans will get tired of me.
-Come on, no one could ever get tired of your singing, please? The older then started pouting like Sungmin to get Kyuhyun to accept.
-No hyung, I’m sorry. Well actually I’m not, I’m doing this because you derserve some time to have the spotlight all to yourself. You’ve worked so hard and I know this was a difficult season for you.
Siwon was about to give up when he came up with another amazing idea
-What if you just did the background vocals? Like you did with Donghae hyung with his solo, last tour?
The maknae let a little smile in amusement, Siwon was really desperate, so he agreed.
Sure enough, the song blew ELFs’ minds. Siwon improved a lot and with Kyuhyun’s help in the background and other members’ later on, it was a complete success. Siwon was sure that it was all thanks to the prodigious maknae until he told that to Kyuhyun by the end of the tour:
-No, it was all thanks to you alone. Kyuhyun said confidently.
-W-What are you talking about? You heard me during the rehearsals, the performances at the concerts were nothing like that.
-I know, but I was a mere backup, you were the main singer here hyung; I barely did a thing. I believe that what you were missing was a little confidence but you gained it once you knew others would help you; but the thing is that you don’t need help to shine Siwon. The song was amazing because you were amazing, I was just the shot of confidence, that made the song sound incredible. He finished with a wink and left as Leeteuk was calling him.
Siwon was just left there standing, wondering how things had come that now Kyuhyun knew him better than the religious man knew himself; not that it bothered him...
OK you have every right to kill me as it took me weeks to write this chapter, I think it's missing something but I don't know what, what do you say?
I'm in my questioning mood so let me ask you to the few of you who read this, which is your favorite solo of Kyuhyun? and Siwon? (he doesn't have too many but he has some) live performances can also be... :)
