animes and cal japans
so yesterday was the (berkeley) anime club's manga social.
the room was filled with....of course, otaku looking people. aka, not very clean? looking asians. |D; there were a few exceptions to this rule, but....
P: I mean, some of the girls looked like....they wouldn't be into this sort of thing (well, no, they looked like genuine fobs, the chic kind)
and maybe one or two guys were clean looking. and a couple others were white -SHOTTTTTTTT- and some other races -shrug- well whatever
so like...everyone had to intro themselves with (name) (a manga you own [bought]) (favorite manga) (manga currently reading)
man, these people read a hell of a lot of manga. liek, some of them knew like every manga mentioned by the other people @_@ I only heard of like, less than half the manga mentioned LOL?
one of the fob-looking-girls works at tokyopop, that manga publisher here. o: apparently that's how the anime club gets a lot of its manga--through donations from tokyopop =w='
also this particular guy was really...one of those people I'd like to call Asshole-Out-Loud. :O
while we were intro'ing, sometimes we'd get off topic or mentioned more than one manga, then this AHOL guy would go "GAWD WE'LL NEVER FINISH THIS" in the most pissed off voice ever, as if he'd die from us not finishing.
apparently the AHOL (..lol ahol... that still sounds like a-hole!) is a translator for some scanlation group. the group's name and/or the manga they scanlate were undisclosed as it was apparently "not safe for work (or school, in our case)"

so one of the guys said he was currently reading skip beat -teehee!- btw, there were like a grand total of 5 or 6 girls present, including me. =w=''''''' outnumberrrrrrrrd!
so anyways, the manga social is like a book club. we pick a manga to read (partially, if it's a long series) that we'll talk about the next time we meet (meets are every thursday). we voted on "lock-on" (I didn't vote, because I wasn't sure what the suggested titles were about...)
fortunately, it's got decent (bearable) art. I mean, it's not really bad at all, just not the sort of style I like. and it's short. I ended up finishing it when I got home because it's only 18 chapters.
it's interesting.......I guess? its scanlation group labelled it as an "ecchi" manga, but there's really nothing ecchi about it. except that there are frequent nosebleeds, but like...I wouldn't say that's particularly ecchi. that's good, because weird fanservice makes me cringe P:
ommm....that fob-girl that works at tokyopop, I went for dinner with her and her ....(male) friend? I don't know their affiliation, but it's apparently not bf/gf. because most of the club wanted chipotle and I hate! mexican food, and the girl and guy didn't want to go either, so I followed them. we had japanese food =w= (although I had sushi for lunch, but...whatever~~~ teheee)
so anyway, that girl, she (was? is?) a fan of NEWS and KATTUN 8D
I was so awkward when I asked her, it was like
"do you like jpop?"
"yeah"
"like, jpop not related to anime?"
"yeah"
"idol groups?"
"mm...like which ones?"
"ehh"
"I don't like AKB48, those big...girl...groups bleh!!"
"oh good, I don't like them either :D"
"then which one do you mean?"
"like NEWS...?"
"OO NEWS and KATTUN :D my favorite was yamapi!"
"-random fangirl talk!-"
the guy friend apparently likes kpop and SNSD. -shuns him!!!!!!- but he's in EECS and apparently my brother knows him...but I think he forgot my brother. my brother remembers too many people.....

so today was the first general meeting for the cal japan club. (CJC)
it's really weird hearing japanese...people...speak...injapanese...in real life! O;'' like, normal college students conversing.

anyway so.......oh yea they were playing music on the room's speakers. :D I heard Arashi's Troublemaker and NEWS's WeeeeK n___n I was like :D
and some other song I swear I've heard before, but I don't have it on my ipod. or at least, I feel like I've heard the vocalist before. -shrug- the president of CJC was talking to me at the time that (unknown) song was playing, and I told her that I felt like I heard it before P:
she said she tried picking songs that were popular. I wonder if she's a fan of NEWS/Arashi? or what... I didn't ask, because the way she said it made it seem like ...she just heard of them but isn't really a fan? I don't know.
and for the club's slideshow, the music was GReeeeN's Kiseki :D
after the presentation and stuff we just stood around talking. I met another guy in EECS (this one a freshman; the anime club one was a junior ...who was gonna graduate this year =_= what a nerddddd)
om....apparently we take the same math class. and compsci. o_o well those classes are big so it's impossible to recognize/identify anyone. P:
some girls came to talk to us and the indian one (:D yay for different-races-all-interested-in-japanese-stufffs) attempted to talk to me in japanese, but I failed miserably :D!
then we all went over to some other guys to talk to them...
one was a 3rd year EECS, and at this point, my brother came to pick me up so we could go home. and the EECS guy was all "ohhay andrew"

apparently the EECS guy is also in IEEE, which...I've been wrangled into. P: the IEEE people want to make me ...marketing director or something, because my brother made me draw a flyer for their first general meeting LOL and they liked it ... :D? D:?
so yeah. I'm tired. my first class today was at 12 but my brother had a class at 9 so I had to go.
so I was sitting in the hall my japanese class is in for three hours drawing.
.....
fun.
then japanese class, theatre discussion, and compsci lecture. then when lecture ended at three I went back down to get something to eat. I ate a crepe. it was good =w=''
uh..then I sat in front of the hall that the CJC meeting was gonna be in. at this point, it was a little before 4, I think. the meeting starts at 7.
...
gotta burn another 3 hours. u_u so I finished that drawing I was doing, then I played maplestory for a little while and I don't even know. at some point I moved into the hall to get a better signal. P:
then at like, 6:40 or so, I went to go find the CJC room.
so today, I had about 7 hours of time to burn. I was gonna do math homework but I started getting sleepy after the first problem so I just stopped. hee.
