CAL DAY.
my brother's engineering group had a Rube Goldberg (sp?) competition and so he and his group pulled an allnighter last night to finish it.
I was invited by the engineering division for a breakfast, and by the women engineers' group for a luncheon. I was too tired to bother to go to the breakfast, so we went to the luncheon.
I saw someone who looked like she could be margaret's (from COSMOS) sister, I swear. I wanted to ask, but that would be awkward. I don't even know if margaret has a sister.
after listening to the AWE (association of women engineers) babble about crap, we left (thank gawd! normally my mom would stay and ask a zillion questions but I pulled her out)
then we went to visit my brother building their (fail) rube goldberg machine.
it was really ghetto, because it was built from whatever they found around the labs and stuff my brother brought from home, including almost all of the paper-towel-tubes that we saved up and some other things. I just got in the way watched them while they troubleshooted parts.
then I fell asleep on a chair and after that, I finished watching sunao ni narenakute (I'd watched a bit before we left for berkeley, watched on the way to berkeley, and then finished at that room)

-don't really like tamayama's char, because he was so easy (but maybe he doesn't really care anymore since he's impotent LOLLLLLLL)...but I felt bad for him because that bitch of a boss was being a bitch.
-hate that other girl, ueno juri's friend...don't remember her name, and don't know the actress. but she's a bitch too. and a slut. -shrug-
I find it interesting about how everyone sorta lied about their positions, pretending to be really good, but all of them are underlings.
the subbers should have translated the hamlet reference to "To buy, or not to buy!" LOL is was bought

back to the rube goldberg! basically, I stayed in the room from about 12-4 or 5. then we moved to the competition hall to set up and stuff.
some of the other teams had hella fancy/pretty stuff and ours was the fugliest and you couldn't tell WHAT the hell it was going to/supposed to do. LOL
1) a wind-up crab with a pin attached to it runs into a balloon
2) the balloon pops, letting loose a string that was holding up a weight. the weight falls
3) the falling weight pulls the trigger on a nerf gun. the nerf gun hits the head of one of those garden-flamingos.
4) the garden-flamingo spins from the impact, its butt hits a ball
5) the impact causes the ball to roll down the track down into a tube and hits the open blades of a scissor
6) the impact of the ball closes the blades of the scissor, cutting a string
7) cutting the string releases a "hammer" (a big rock ducttaped to a tube), which swings down onto a air-duster (those things that spray air that you use to get dust out of electronics or w/e)
8) the air-duster sprays air at a ball
9) the ball rolls into some "dominoes" (9-volt batteries)
10) the batteries domino into a plank, which moves a bit to cause another ball to start rolling
11) the ball rolls down a few paths and hits a tube, which releases a pin
12) the pin's release causes a weight to fall, which falls onto a lever
13) the lever pushes up on the rear of a mini-car (one of those yellow-red ones from long ago!)
14) the car rolls down a ramp, pulling along a string
15) the string pulls away a catch, which causes another weight to fall
16) the falling weight pulls away a bar, which causes a car to be released and roll down a track
17) the car rolls into a dump-truck holding a yoyo
18) the dump-truck-yoyo falls off the platform it was on
19) the loss of the weight of the dump-truck-yoyo makes the platform imbalanced, and it tilts down
20) a pipe on the bottom of that platform tilts down as well, pouring salt-water into a cup
21) the salt-water becomes a conductor for wires that were in the cup
22) electricity flows and does some crap with a capacitor
23) these...special motor things are activated
24) the motor things squeeze down on the head of a hand sanitizer
25) HAND SANITIZER DISPENSE!

well, there was a step between 15 and 16, but it failed too much so they took it out.
each team gets 3 rounds. our first two rounds failed at step 9, so much "human intervention" was required. however, after removing that step between 15 and 16, and some modifications, our third round was flawless!
they ended up getting 3rd place~ $200! :D totally unexpected, and the whole IEEE team was ecstatic.
and what was great, was that they spent NOTHING on it. the other teams spent like, hundreds of dollars building theirs. but the IEEE team was super ghetto. LOL
we'll have to start saving up paper towel tubes again. O:
