On Dreams and Impossibilities
... so I just had an interesting conversation with a friend and it ended up with me going on a rant about people restricting their dreams to the realm of the real.
Question:
"Reality dreams like getting a good stable teaching job and loving it everyday is real-able. But like....princess stories aren't. Do you get it?"
Reply:
Yeahh, I get it but I still disagree. That's like saying it's better not to love at all right? Whereas I think even though it'd hurt, it's better to love and get hurt than to never know love at all, at the risk of sounding cliche. Reality dreams like you said are good, but if I can't believe in anything other than the realm of the possible, I don't see the point in dreaming at all.
There would be so much missing from our world if people didn't have dreams beyond what they thought was possible. All the amazing things that people can achieve, none of it would happen. We'd all forever stay inside our tiny holes because that was all we know, and no one would ever take a chance on anyone else. What a miserable world that would be. Impossible dreams give us hope, and people can't live without hope.
I guess what it comes down to is I believe in the impossibilities. I think to constrain myself to the realm of the strictly possible would be resigning myself to being miserable, and to me thats unacceptable. I'll dream about my princess stories, and who knows, I could find my prince one day. I wont settle for second best, I'll take my ideal and strive for it. Granted, you can conform the impossibilities to reality to make them happen, but to constrict them before they are even formed is doing yourself a disservice.
It's pretty much just copypasta'd from the window, with some editing for grammar. Just something I thought was interesting and want to think about more when I'm not wiped out exhausted. Anyways, feel free to comment on what you think (or not if you don't want to XD).
