saturday! tori amos rabid fangirlness!!!

Apr 28, 2007 13:03

lester woke me up today in a very nice way. it is nice to snuggle with your boyfriend on lazy saturday mornings. he made me yummy coffee too. but he kicked me off the couch last night. he's on the couch now watching treasure planet.

i have a piano: tori amos 5 CD box set. without the box, which would have been cream. it's a beautiful piano that opens up. grabe ang ganda ng mga remixes--it even has the original crucify radio edit, dance/techno (!!!) versions of professional widow and various b-sides and rare songs. none of my favorite covers though-sayang, she has a wonderful cover of smells like teen spirit by nirvana. And the Strange Little Girls album is not included, most likely because it is her cover album. I do like that album, especially her cover of Happiness is a Warm Gun.

DISC A (Little Earthquakes Extended)
Like Alanis, this is her angriest album, but most lyrically clear. She tends to get weirder furthur along. Not that I care.

01) Leather (Alternate Mix) (oh wow, i love this one)
02) Precious Things (Alternate Mix)
03) Silent All These Years (the usual favorite)
04) Upside Down
05) Crucify (Unedited Single Version)(here you can actually hear the second voice, clearly!)
06) Happy Phantom (the first Tori Amos song I "heard". Mahala pere_chan sang this to me)
07) Me and a Gun
08) Flying Dutchman (Alternate Mix) ( i haven't heard this yet)
09) Girl
10) Winter
11) Take to the Sky (Russia) (she has a fantastic live performance of this on one of her DVDS)
12) Tear In Your Hand (driftrip's favorite, from what I remember
13) China (the ultimate breakup song)
14) Sweet Dreams (No, not the Annie Lennox one)
15) Mother (Alternate Mix) (best sung to your mother omitting the curse word)
16) Little Earthquakes

DISC B (Pink and Pele)

personally I think Boys for Pele is one the greater albums. I love love love the Louisana country feel to it, the trumpets and the arrangements of the songs. Too bad this collection doesn't have the duet with MJK of Tool for the RAINN concert. You know the one where she starts singing and he just walks onstage. Pink is moody, for rainy days and love. :)

01) Cornflake Girl (hahahahaha)
02) Honey
03) Take Me With You
04) Baker Baker (Alternate Mix)
05) The Waitress (Alternate Mix)
06) Pretty Good Year
07) God (I love the discordant guitar on this)
08) Cloud On My Tongue (your already in there, i'll be wearing your tattoo)
09) Past the Mission (Alternate Mix) (the original version had Trent Reznor of the NiN singing backup)
10) Bells For Her (best friends song)
11) Yes, Anastasia (Alternate Mix)
12) Blood Roses (this is a vampire song)
13) Mr. Zebra
14) Caught a Lite Sneeze (Alternate Mix)
15) Professional Widow (Merry Widow Version - Live)
16) Beauty Queen / Horses
17) Father Lucifer (now this has a fantastic bridge, full of soaring voices and trumpets!! or some sort of wind instrument)
18) Marianne

DISC C: Pele, Venus and Tales

Now, Tales came out originally intended as a greatest hits with three new tracks. This is the only album besides Y Kant Tori Read and Boys that I don't own on CD. She is after all, incredibly difficult to find, here in the Philippines. Venus is my sick summer sadness high album.

01) Walk to Dublin (Sucker Reprise)
02) Hey Jupiter (Dakota Version) (left my heart soaking wet, boy your boots can leave a mess--another great breakup song)
03) Professional Widow (Armand’s Star Trunk Funkin’ Mix) (hahahahaha the dance mix of this is weird.)
04) Putting the Damage On
05) Bliss (Remixed Version)
06) Suede
07) Glory of the 80’s
08) 1000 Oceans
09) Concertina (Single Remix Version)
10) Lust
11) Datura
12) Sugar (Live from sound check)
13) The Waitress (Live) (i sing this song a lot)
14) Snow Cherries From France
15) Doughnut Song (Remixed Version)

Disc D: Scarlet, Beekeeper and Choirgirl

I've said before that Choirgirl is honestly my favorite album. I have several songs dedicated to Lester on this album. It's like she took the words out of my mouth and by god, I wish I'd written some of the songs. The Beekeeper isn't one of my favorites--it's the only Tori album that I had to listen to several times before I actually liked it. It strikes me as super-folk and kind of...wala lang. No real impact! (And dude, it surpassed Venus in weirdness potential, but that's just my opinion.) The only great thing is her duet with Damien Rice. Scarlet's Walk was an almost perfect album--the stories behind the songs were fantastic. :)

01) A Sorta Fairytale (hehe, a story in a song)
02) Not David Bowie
03) Amber Waves
04) iieee (Remixed Version) (one of my personal favorites. i love the heavy percussion)
05) Playboy Mommy (Remixed Version)
06) The Beekeeper
07) Jackie’s Strength (Remixed Version)
08) Zero Point
09) Sweet the Sting (one of the better Beekeeper songs)
10) Ode To My Clothes
11) Spark (the first song of Tori that I ever covered with karmamonkey this version is spooky and beautiful.
12) Intro Jam and Marys of the Sea
13) Cruel (Remixed Version) (i love the lyrics of this one)
14) Dolphin Song
15) Gold Dust

DISC E: Bonus B-Sides

Okay I've only listened to a few of these, so I can't form an opinion yet. Tori is famous for her numerous B-sides, covers and concert pieces. So far, I love the fact that Cooling is here. The Venus: Still Orbiting Live disc version is better though. (God someone send me to watch her live. I would gladly take a life.)

01) The Pool
02) Never Seen Blue
03) Daisy Dead Petals
04) Beulah Land
05) Sugar
06) Cooling
07) Bachelorette
08) Black Swan (oh wait, this one is good)
09) Mary (Tales Version)
10) Pepping Tommi
11) Toodles Mr. Jim

Demo Medley:
12) Fire-Eater’s Wife / Beauty Queen (Demo)
13) Playboy Mommy (Demo)
14) A Sorta Fairytale (Demo)

15) This Old Man (can you believe it)
16) Purple People
17) Here. In My Head
18) Hungarian Wedding Song
19) Merman
20) Sister Janet
21) Home on the Range (Cherokee Edition)(again, can you believe it)
22) Frog On My Toe

The only complaint I have about this is the repetition of some of the songs like Professional Widow. But I think she chose them more of what she loved, as to her commercially viable songs like Taxi Ride. It's gorgeous and if you love Tori, get this damn thing. You won't be sorry.

haha lesters bugging me na he's drinking yakult. yummy. :D both to lester and the yakult. :D

summer, tori, cds
