Senioritis FTF
I have the English newspaper project due Monday and I have not even looked at it. I have tomorrow, then Thursday I have work after school, Friday I have no school, but work, Saturday I have work, and Sunday is Easter. Aw, man. Well you know what though? I think this is the only big thing I'm working on. I know I'll probably eventually have some sort of essay to do on Hamlet, but whatever. This is the biggest project of the semester, I think. At least regarding English. Also? Um, I'm kind of sick of hearing my teacher make remarks about the way women are portrayed. In every single work we study, there's always some sort of remark "And, of course, the women are kind of put to the side here" or "And, of course, because she's a woman, she's obviously weak." I don't know, I find feminist literary critics kind of annoying, because....I don't know, maybe I see it as kind of self-centered. The portrayal and role of the woman isn't the point of the story (iiiiin most cases. Bell Jar? Sure. Go with it. Not fucking Shakespeare, kay:?). Ophelia didn't go insane because Shakespeare thought women were weak and couldn't deal with her problems. Ophelia went insane because madness is a running theme in the story--and besides, the way she implies certain acts like adultery by the certain "flowers" she gives certain characters in that scene, I'm pretty sure there was a method behind it and she wasn't completely loopy. Although she was more than a little out of her tree. I dunno, it just bugs me.
I did fairly well on the Computers test, I think. I only didn't know 2 out of the 25 questions, which is about how it usually went in Biology. I want to falcon punch my government professor for being so annoyingly scatterbrained and disorganized, but class today was hilarious and tomorrow we're watching a movie.
Mostly, I've been focused on books. I still haven't finished the next episode of Shadow Unit, which aired Sunday. I'm about...a little less than 3/4 through it, and I just can't read it in one sitting. It's really overwhelming. I'm totally in love with it, but I'll save you the rant about the nitpicky things since none of you are READING IT LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO GOSH. So I'm doing it a couple scenes at a time and moving on or taking a break. My friend Max let me borrow the Watchmen comic, which is good, except for the annoying word-emphasis things they do in dialogue bubbles. It's unneccessary and messes with my inner dialogue-reader. Another loaded story I need to take breaks from, but it's easier because I already saw the movie. Also reading Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman, which everyone should read. Ever. Especially if you're a Lovecraft reader (read Shoggoth's Old Peculiar and Only the End of the World Again). It's a collection of short stories and I am in love with all of them. Right now though I'm kind of sick of all three, because I've been alternating between them all day, and I think I need a break. Watchmen I'm trying to do a chapter at a time, but it's exhausting literature....though not nearly as exhausting as oh, say, Elizabeth Bear's Promethian Age. After a paragraph of that I was like "phew, Break time".
I also still haven't watched Supernatural because I FAIL. So I need to do that. Probably tomorrow, because then I'll miss this Thursday's episode because I'm working again. AGH BUT I HAVE TO START MY NEWSPAPER. FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!
I was hit by the muses earlier today and decided to come back to a Golden Compass fanfic I started a while ago when I first finished Amber Spyglass. It's a deus ex machina, few-years-post-series kind of thing. Admittedly cliched, and I may have messed with one of the technicalities in the series just a teensy bit, though I can't be sure. It's already fairly long, at least by my standards, and I'm mostly satisfied with the writing style. But I left it at one spot forever, and just today I added two more paragraphs to it, only now I'm stuck again. I'm kind of trying to kick it and make it not be a smutfic, but it's hard to do.
SQUEE I GOT MY COPY OF CORAMBIS TODAY! And paid for most of it using a gift card, so awesomesauce there.
