i have come to the conclusion that i possibly have absolutely no idea when it comes to music. i honestly can't give an opinion about a band or album with out comparing it to what has come before. those reviews in AP always talk about loops and hooks and shit like that. i've never looked at music in that way before. it almost seems unnatural or something like that. music is supposed to be an outlet for the artist and an activator of emotions for the listener. i often find it hard to agree with reviews even if they are bad ones or if i know the band is not up to par. maybe i have bad taste, or quite possibly a better understanding of music as a whole.
another thing that bothers me is when people don't understand good progression. everyone is always like "they were doing so well with what they had before, why change it?" i felt this way at one time also. but what people need to understand is that good bands don't just make music for the listener but for themselves. and no one wants to do the same thing all the time.
