boldpink&blueshimmer (creaseless)

Wow. I am sincerely sorry the lj-cut didn't work the first time, I'm usually a stickler for such things! For some reason, going from rich text back to plain textmoves your cut, and I didn't notice.

I was looking at all the requests and lately I've noticed a lot of requests for those with asian (creaseless) eyes, those who wear glasses, and looks that will still be noticable at shows (aka dark, hot places full of a lot of people). I am in by no means a makeup pro in any right and I don't have a ton of experience or knowledge, but I'm all of the above (a Korean, spectacle wearing, mosh pit starting fiend) so I thought I'd post this...more for INSPIRATION rather than technique, because I will be the first person to tell you that I still need to work on mine. I've been working on this look for several weeks and I think I finally fine tuned it.

So now that we got that disclaimer out of the way...here we go.

First up is by far my most complimented look. I used this look when I went to the Warped Tour in 105 degree heat, so I can tell you that if done right, it can and will stay on all day, or night, even if you're going to a show or club. I've been working on this for a LONG time! The first time I made a tutorial for this I opted not to post it, because looking at the pictures, I didn't think it was good enough. Then I did it again after working on it some more a couple weeks later, but again felt it lacked quality. Then I did it AGAIN the other night (and I think I did a better job than I did for this one, haha) but when I uploaded the photos I realized they were far too dark. So here I am again. Hopefully the effort shows. lol. Also, the second time I did this, I dropped my camera and part of it got loosened. The third time I did it (a few weeks later), I once again dropped it. Ironically enough it snapped the previously loose part back into place, but I had to re-align the lense and it hasn't been working well ever since :/ Therefore, I'm sorry that half of the photos are so poor.

What I use:

When I use foundation, I go ahead and do that first. I've been straying away from that lately, except to cover huge blemishes, because I've clogged my pores for several years and I'm letting them breathe again, lol. Then use a primer or base to keep your look as long as possible. I usually just use L'oreal True Color concealer. Then I'm using one of my favorite shadows ever, Last Call by Urban Decay. It's this gorgeous dark pink with shimmer. Apply liberally from the inner corner of the eye to about half way out. Since I want a really intense effect for shows, I usually use an applicator to really get it on good (either that or you can use a hard bristle brush) and then a soft brush so that it doesn't look so harsh. Since I'm not an expert blender, to make it a little easier, I kind of make it wavy...I'm not even going to try to describe that further because my adjectives are at a loss right now, so just look at the picture.

Then I just take a dab of Star Violet by MAC and with my finger (you can use a brush or wahtever you want) I kind of blend it in the center with Last Call. It has a velvet texture and is similar to Last Call, and it helps me blend with the next color, a midnight blue. This step is optional.

Then I apply Goddess by Urban Decay (a midnight blue with glitter), but it's a lot darker than the pink, so don't go tooooo overboard. Don't worry too much about blending at this point. You definetely don't want to try to blend with an applicator -- the two colors are so different, if you do that you take a high risk of muddy-ing up the middle and making it look black or some other color that we don't want. But at this point your eye should look something like this.

Now for the blending. I use the eyeshadow brush and put a bit of the pink and let it go to the blue, and then some blue and let it go to the pink...I don't know how to describe, lol. But do whatever you do as far as blending goes. Again, just be careful.

Don't think blending is important? Take a look at the difference between the two eyes!

I know this is kind of weird but I usually take a bit of Last Call or Star Violet and literally dot up and down in between the pink and the blue and then use a clean brush across the entire lid. It's not as professional, but it works for me. Do whatever works for you!

Now, you really want to sparkle!! I use the Sugar Glitter Trio (I was reluctant when I purchased it, but it ended up being way awesome. Once it's dried it'll REALLY stay put unless you use makeup remover and keep it on your lid for a few seconds. I line the pink under the pink shadow. If you want to be funky you can switch it up and ahve the blue glitter liner under the pink shadow and the pink glitter under the blue shadow....but I find matching the colors to be just fine. I apply it a bit thick, so that when I open my eyes, you can BARELY see it glimmer (I'm sure those of you who actually have a crease will have a different way of doing this). Try to keep your eye closed until it's completely dried, though. Then do the blue. Then I use the silver to let it curve past my eye naturally.

Then use a highlighter where indicated in the picture. Sweep sheer highlighter (for the tutorial I used Champagne by NYC but it comes off easily! The L'oreal version is better, I just can't find it right now) all around eyeshadow color, up to the browbone, and blend upwards (I literally take the brush and sweep it from the eyeshadow colors towards your eyebrows). Then use a smudger, clean soft eyeshadow brush, or fingers to finalize the blending and soften the look. You can really do it any way you want, but that's how I do it. And if you want a bold look, you can choose not to have a highlighter at all and keep it the way it is in Exhibit A (that's how I used to do it when I first started out) but as I've worked on this look for several weeks, I think that it's evolved nicely into Exhibit C.

Then put on some mascara. I use the L'oreal Lash extender because I have REALLY small eyes. It does a decent job. I also have really sparse brows so I fill them in with Vital Radience in Dark Brown. I use the darker color with a little bit of the lighter one. If they come out too dark or harsh, I just use a q-tip to fix it. I just now plucked my brows for the first time ever a few days ago, so be kind! lol. I know I didn't get all the strays but I got lazy and in too much pain, haha.

Now we're just finishing up the face. Then I use Urban Decay flavor powder and swipe it on with the brush it came with. I go all up and down my cheekbones, and then where you'd normally put bronzer (across the forehead, cheeks, and nose) just for some extra shimmer where the light catches. Since your eyes are so bright and sparkly, downplay the lips. I start by putting on Sugar Lip Balm (honestly, I think that 99 cent chap stick works just as well, but I paid a lot more than 99 cents for it, so I intend on getting my money's worth, lol). Then I use Sally Hansen Lip Plumper in Sheer Blush -- it's a nude color for my skin tone. To get some of the redness out of my face, I use L'oreal Bare Naturale in Nude Beige, concentrating on the cheeks. It also does a good job of getting any 'fall out' from the shadow, as well. Again, I'm trying to stray away from liquid foundation even though it would be nice to hide my huge pores, but the mineral stuff does an okay job. Then I smile, brush some blush across my cheeks (it's a pink/peach shimmer). Then, take a step back, make sure everything looks okay, and you're done!

The first two are without flash under flourescent lighting, and the final is with flash.

If you ladies think I'm on the right track, I'll make more. I already took the photos for a smokey green shimmer, a bold "mermaid" green, and a camo-inspired look. But this took me forever to finish, so I better not bite off more than I can chew, haha.
