Happy first day of Spring, everyone!

May the god of ducks smile upon you all. (No, that is not a shameless plug for Tournament of Spring. This is a shameless plug for Tournament of Spring. |D ...yeah, okay, sorry.)

1. Okay, apparently I wasn't getting birthday notifications, so before I forget again, Happy Extremely Belated Birthday to gameazel, ever_free, and theprerogative! And also melissa_42, though I think I already wished you well, but I didn't do it in a post, and I feel like I ought to, so. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ALL and I'm sorry I'm so ridiculously late. XD

2. So what with Wednesday's chapter of KHR revealing the epic spoiler (I'll say that part again, SPOILER--as in, if you haven't read that chapter yet, you might want to skip this next bit XD) that Gokudera's mom didn't die in a "car accident" after all, but lost her life to a MYSTERIOUS ILLNESS, I suppose it was inevitable that I'd find myself pondering this sooner or later. The thing is, the end of the Future arc also had me thinking a lot about the box animals (just because Amano nearly gave me a freaking heart attack by originally saying they'd have to leave them behind), and so it was only a matter of time before some weird part of my mind tried connecting the two. And these are the thoughts that occurred:

  1. I sure hope whatever diseased Gokudera's mom died from wasn't genetic.
  2. You know, I wonder what wave type she was.
  3. I wonder if she had multiple wave energies as well, since supposedly that kind of thing runs in families, but Bianchi couldn't do it.
  4. --hoshit, I wonder if that's connected to the illness. Since wave energy is basically life energy and all. I wonder if having multiple energies depletes your chakra that much faster or anything like that.
  5. You know, considering all that, I wonder if having a box animal that pops up at will and runs around for hours on end can possibly be at all healthy for the owner of said box animal.
  6. But wait, Uri does eat to replenish his (HER???) energy, and normal box animals don't do that, so that's gotta help some. And also he (SHE???) is almost always in his cute, tiny form, as opposed to her huge and awesomely powerful form, so that's gotta conserve a lot of energy too.
  7. STILL, THOUGH. Why did I even think this, now I'm gonna be all worried for no reason. D:
  8. ...who am I kidding, this is way too big a stretch of logic for even Amano to ever go there.

And yet, for better or worse, the plot bunny has now been planted in my head. I'm sorry, Dera, I think my headcanon is just trying to compensate for the recent lack of angst. XD

3. Okay, so a week ago a huge nor'easter pretty much just slammed into my slate, and the winds were insane. We're talking 50+ miles per hour, which, while not enough to classify the storm as a hurricane, was still enough to do plenty of damage (especially in places like where I live, where there are a crapload of trees everywhere). So basically a ton of trees got knocked down, and everything's been kind of a mess for the past few days.

But since the storm the weather's been absolutely gorgeous, and today it was so gorgeous that, given that it was the first day of Spring and all, we decided to go to the park. So we get there, and there are pretty much fallen trees everywhere you look, and also a fair number that are also leaning and/or partially uprooted. So a bunch of tree guys with trucks were there clearing everything out. And there were two leaning trees in particular just by the edge of the playground that they wanted to cut down before they fell and hurt someone.

At this point, I should mention that baby sis was there and was in fact the main reason we were at the playground to begin with, because if you have a four-year-old and you don't take her out to the playground on a day like this, you are just a horrible, mean person who hates joy and laughter. And she was really excited, but when we got there we discovered to our dismay that there were frigging gnats swarming around everywhere, and crawling around on a lot of the playground fixtures. And my sister, well, she hates bugs. So she was kind of timidly trying to play, but kept getting scared off.

But the one thing that didn't have bugs on it was the tire swing, and that immediately caught baby sis's eye. So we waited for a bit, but there were a lot of kids hogging it, so eventually baby sis would drift away and try to play on something else, and then drift back again. She was very patient, and I have to give her credit, because she was clearly not having the funnest of times. But eventually, her patience finally paid off, and she finally got the swing all to herself. Meanwhile, the tree guys had finally started to get to work. I should now mention that the corner that the two trees resided in just happened to be the same corner where the tire swing was. One of the big trucks was parked less than a dozen feet away. So there I am, pushing baby sis around in circles, and from where I'm standing I have an excellent view of the tree-massacre that is shortly about to take place. There's a guy perched high above us in a tree-trimming truck, just waiting to do his thing.

Meanwhile, another little kid about baby sis's age is sitting nearby with his mom, watching the tree guys with an expression of dawning horror. I'm kind of watching this in bemusement, when suddenly, with what can only be described as a burst of fierce heroism, he breaks away from his mommy's grip and comes running up to my sister, who is still spinning around in the swing. And as I frantically pull her to a stop (so she doesn't hit the poor kid XD), he looks her in the eye and says, in the most urgent little voice I have ever heard: "LOOK OUT! THAT TREE IS GONNA FALL ON YOU!!!"

And as I start cracking up (I couldn't help it XD), my sis looks up, and at that exact moment, the guy in the tree-trimming truck revs up his chainsaw, his maniacal outline framed along with the tree branches in the sun. And my poor sis just FREAKS THE HELL OUT and starts scrambling to get off the swing, while her would-be knight in shining armor sprints back to the safety of his mother (who is also cracking up XD), and even though the tree really was nowhere near the swing (they had caution tape wrapped around the area we were supposed to stay clear of, and we were fine), that was pretty much the end of our outing in the park, because like hell if I could get that kid to calm down again. It probably didn't help that it took me like five minute to stop laughing, sob. XDDDD

SO THAT WAS MY DAY, and wow that turned out to be more paragraphs than I thought. But I'm too lazy to go back and edit it all, so there you go.

real life, reborn (the series), hilarity, gokudera
