Drabble Music Meme

Aug 03, 2009 13:36

This meme is by far my favorite way to kick writer's block in the nuts. :P

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Rating - PG-13 (for language)
Characters/Pairings - (A lot of) Gokudera, Yamamoto, Tsuna, Reborn, and Viper. Some hinted 8059 and 5927.
Notes/Warnings - Can't think of any.

Radiohead - My Iron Lung

He hasn’t slept in two days, and it’s beginning to take its toll. The world feels less stable, and he feels less in control, a little more schizophrenic with every hour that passes.

Yamamoto told him to get some rest, and he told him to fuck off. He isn’t going anywhere until the Tenth wakes up. He already screwed up badly enough to let this happen; like hell is he leaving his side after this.

But the more time passes, the more he paranoid he feels, like he’s going to fall apart at any second. Finally, the door opens, and he jumps to his feet, dynamite in hand-

It’s Yamamoto. He’s holding a blanket. He puts it around Gokudera’s shoulders, and takes a seat beside him.

“We’ll watch him together,” he says.

Aerosmith - Same Old Song and Dance

The explosion ripples outward, blowing out the window and temporarily deafening anyone in range. There’s frantic shouting and then gunfire, followed by cursing and running (and some tripping, and more cursing).

Just another day in the mafia world.

Barenaked Ladies - One Week

“I’m still mad at you,” Gokudera informs him as their paths cross on the way to Tsuna’s.

“I know,” Yamamoto laughs.

“And you still owe me a new book.”

“Already on it.” Yamamoto grins, reaches into his bag and pulling out a textbook. Gokudera’s footsteps slow momentarily before he reaches over, a look of surprise on his face.

“I know I can’t waste any time if I want you to forgive me,” Yamamoto explains.

“-I didn’t say I forgave you!”

“Ha ha ha! I know!”

Gokudera just glares and shoves the book into his own bag.

Incubus - Talk Shows on Mute

Hayato can’t understand why his father bothers telling him not to linger when he has guests over. Whenever his father greets a visitor, they inevitably retreat to the sitting room to discuss “business” over caviar and wine. Sometimes-very rarely, but it happens-he’ll hear muffled shouts from the room, something vaguely interesting. But most of the time, the discussion is banal and dull, utterly boring to a six-year-old.

Why would anyone want to hang around?

Radiohead - Reckoner

“Sometimes I wonder why we bothered,” Viper complains to him one day. “You know none of them appreciate it, even the ones who actually understand what we did.”

“I thought you did it for the paycheck,” Reborn comments absently.

“There was that. But still; it’s irksome.”

“We were never in this to be appreciated. We did our job; that’s all that matters.”

“Such a pragmatic view, as ever. You don’t care one way or the other, do you?”

“As long as my Family survives, that’s all the payoff I need.”

“How selfless.”

“You were, too. Don’t forget.”

Viper sighs. “Don’t remind me.”

Foo Fighters - Stranger Things Have Happened

Gokudera tends to go into periods of withdrawal from time to time-usually when things get too stressful and he starts to feel like too much pressure will make him slip or crack, and show some vulnerability-and Yamamoto has, over time, gotten used to this. So he’ll leave him alone for a day or two, and most of the time Gokudera will eventually collect himself again, and things will go on as usual.

But every now and then, Gokudera takes a little longer, gets a little testier, and it’s those times when Yamamoto takes it upon himself to clear both their schedules, kidnap the Storm Guardian from his apartment, and just take him somewhere. To an Italian restaurant, a movie, or even just out of town, on a nice long drive.

Gokudera always snipes at him nonstop. But, Yamamoto doesn’t fail to notice, the next day things are always back to normal again.

John Butler Trio - What You Want

The distance always kills him on missions like these. He knows it’s all part of the job; as the right hand man, the Tenth relies on him to help keep relations smooth between the Vongola and the other families, especially since he has a much more intimate knowledge of Italy than the rest of the guardians. But even so, to be stuck in a country he’s long since stopped thinking of as home, while the others are back in Japan-while Tsuna is back in Japan… it gets hard sometimes.

If he’d ever experienced the feeling while growing up, he would have known to identify it as homesickness.

Lisa Hannigan - I Don’t Know

Gokudera is a constant surprise, indignant and irate one moment, then clumsily sincere the next. Yamamoto never knows what to expect, and relishes it.

“Will-you-stop!” Gokudera grunts as he shoves Yamamoto’s arm away from his shoulders. “Fuck, you’re so annoying!”

“Ha ha! I can’t help it!” Yamamoto laughs, and it’s the truth, though he knows Gokudera will never really understand.

“Like hell you can’t! How hard is it to fucking keep your hands to yourself?”

“I just like you, is all!”

Gokudera suddenly goes a brilliant red, and Yamamoto delights in the way his eyes widen in surprise and then, not a second later, spark with exasperated rage.

“God, why are you always… just… argh!”

And he storms away, muttering incomprehensible things in Italian, with Yamamoto following close behind, laughing so hard he can’t breathe.

Over the Rhine - Ohio

Tsuna was gunned down in the same town where he had grown up.

After that, Namimori never felt the same. Gokudera visited the shrine where they had once sat together and watched fireworks, and felt strangely hollow. Yamamoto stopped going to watch the junior high’s baseball games, because looking up at the spot in the bleachers where Tsuna and the others had once cheered him on made him feel the aching presence of time, the horrible sense of moving relentlessly forward and leaving everything he ever cared about behind. Ryohei stopped dropping by the old boxing ring, and even Hibari gave up sitting on the school’s roof in favor of gazing at it from a distance instead.

They all felt like something had come to an end.

Coldplay - Death and All His Friends

“I wish we could have more days like this,” Tsuna breathes, his voice just barely audible over the light summer breeze that ripples past.

“…Yeah,” Gokudera agrees after a moment from where he lies on the grass beside his boss.

“It’s peaceful.”

“That’s because there aren’t any idiots around,” Gokudera points out.

Tsuna makes a sound that starts out as a sigh but then almost grudgingly turns into a chuckle instead.

“Boss?” Gokudera says questioningly.

“Gokudera-kun? Don’t ever change, okay?”

He turns his head, surprised, then smiles.

“Okay.”
