Parallels and Perpendiculars

They met by chance. Ikeoka was there to pick up his latest assortment of fan letters; Jun had paperwork to fill out before an upcoming series of auditions. Ikeoka would have just kept walking if Jun hadn't called out to him. “IkeP! Hey, how are you?”

Ikeoka turned slowly, but the grin on his face lit the room. “Jun, hey! I wasn't sure you had time to talk. Tenimyu's a killer, huh.” He shifted his clutch of letters under his arm, leaving his hands free.

Jun shrugged it off. “How about you? Acrobatics going okay, or are you already ready to be done rolling around on the floor?”

Ikeoka rubbed his eyes. “I don't even know at this point. I wanna say I wish the play had started already, but we're nowhere near ready. …'cept for Seiya, of course.”

“Right, Seiya...” Jun laughed. “They should have cast him ages ago, but you know, I'm glad I didn't have to compare my acrobatics to his... Well, not in Tumbling, anyway.” His face went a little dark.

“But hey, you've been doing other things with your life. Besides, he couldn't teach me how to perfect the stag handstand.” A shocked smile lit Jun's face and Ikeoka pushed the letters into his hands before backing up and executing the maneuver. He wobbled a little at first, and his t-shirt slipped down, baring his chest and covering his face, but he was still perfectly audible when he said, “See, I got it!”

“Congratulations!” Jun clapped as Ikeoka regained his feet.

“It's thanks to your advice.” When Jun attempted to return the letters, Ikeoka took his hands instead. “You have to grasp the ground firmly, right?” On the word "grasp," he squeezed Jun's hands.

A soft flush lit Jun's cheeks. “R-right. After you get that, it just takes practice.”

Ikeoka didn't let go. “You know... really, how's Tenimyu going? How's your match?”

Jun shifted uncomfortably and pushed Ikeoka's hands away. “It's fine. Ise's the same as ever. Nothing's gone too terribly wrong so far.”

“That's... good. Yeah, that's good. Nothing else?”

“If you're worried about me, I'm really fine,” Jun said, a little sharply.

“No, it's...” Ikeoka broke off and frowned. “Sorry. I don't even really know what I'm trying to ask. Sorry, Jun.” He took his letters back and started walking away.

Jun stood still, the hint of a pout shaping his mouth as his brows knit in confusion. “See you later,” he called hesitantly after him. Ikeoka raised a hand in farewell, not looking back.

It was late that evening when a thought occurred to Jun. He rolled off his bed and reached for his phone, already plugged in for the night.

“I like Tatsunari-kun well enough, but I wish it were you,” he said when Ikeoka picked up, and hung up as soon as he heard Ikeoka's surprised laughter in response.

Ikeoka called him a few times after that, but Jun ignored all of them. In the morning, just as he was preparing to leave, he got a message from him. I wish we could have tumbled together too ♥

Jun went very red and buried his phone as deep in his pocket as it would go. "Stupid IkeP,” he muttered, and grinned.
