Look My Way
Yukkii stared at Shin, willing him to look up. He didn’t. Yukkii pouted. He recrossed his legs, propped his head on his elbows, and resumed staring. Shin turned the page, utterly oblivious. Yukkii cleared his throat and even said “Ne~” in his most hopeful and enticing tone. It didn’t matter. Shin was firmly entrenched in his otaku world and blind to everything but the Bessatsu Margaret in front of him. As Yukkii continued to watch, a light blush spread across his cheeks and he giggled before flipping the page again and staring at the next one rapturously. Yukkii resisted the urge to gag - ewww, shojo manga - and tilted his head to the side, wondering how he should get his attention.
When he thought about it a little, the solution was obvious. He waited until he had gotten to a really good part (he could tell because his eyes got a little unfocused and he was mumbling the word “moe” repeatedly under his breath) and snatched the magazine away from him. Shin threw himself at him with uncharacteristic intensity and managed to pin him against the wall. “Shin-chan, you aren’t usually this strong, are you?” Yukkii asked, slightly breathless.
“Kazehaya and Sawako aren’t usually about to kiss,” Shin said darkly, and wrestled the magazine back from him, tossing him onto the bed. He then sat on top of him, correctly assuming that this would prevent him from stealing it again, though it was more because Yukkii was content where he was than because he was physically keeping him there.
Yukkii wiggled an arm free, and Shin tensed, but he simply set it on top of Shin’s legs. From this angle, he could see past Shin's dark eyelashes to see how his eyes were sparkling as they scanned the manga, and he was content to watch them. He noticed how Shin’s lips twitched ever so slightly whenever he turned the page, and how every now and then, he seemed to be mouthing the dialogue. Probably trying to memorize some cheesy lines so he can giggle even more over them later, Yukkii thought, shaking his head.
Eventually, Shin closed the magazine with a sigh and set it aside. When he made no move to get off of him, Yukkii shoved him off and sat up. Shin seemed to be stuck in a dream-like trance, and didn’t move until Yukkii pulled him back down beside him. “So?” he said, loudly enough that he knew Shin had to hear him. “Did they kiss or what?”
Shin’s eyes took on a slightly different cast and he turned suddenly to Yukkii, clasping his hands. “You’re not going to believe it! So, they were in the classroom together alone after school, and they were finally having an honest conversation about their feelings, and just then, Kazehaya leaned in like this…” He brought his face close to Yukkii’s, staring at him intently. Yukkii had to look away for a second. “Right, right, Sawako was exactly like that, but she was blushing more! And then Kazehaya got closer, and then Sawako did too…” By now, their lips were almost touching, and Shin’s dark eyes were all Yukkii could see. “And then… Yano burst in suddenly and totally ruined the moment!” Shin said, jumping back.
Yukkii smacked Shin. “Are you kidding? That’s so dumb!” He leaned back and sulked.
“I know, right?” Shin said disgustedly. “I can’t believe it, why does this always happen? They’re just so perfect for each other, so why does everyone else keep getting in the way?”
“Y’know, if it were me, I wouldn’t tolerate it at all,” Yukkii said. He pulled Shin toward him. “Like, we’d be like this, and then somebody would come in,” he said, waving vaguely in the direction of the door. “And then I’d glare at them and be like, ‘Do you mind?’ And then they’d get all embarrassed and leave, and then…” He pressed his lips against Shin’s with a loud smacking sound. “Then I’d kiss you, just like that,” he said, grinning smugly.
Shin blushed scarlet. “W-well, y-you’d be a terrible heroine, then,” he managed, and buried himself in the magazine again. “And Yano’s not the kind of person who would just leave after that.”
“Oh.” Yukkii considered that for a moment, then smiled. “Doesn’t matter. Yano or no, I’d kiss you anyway.”
“Don’t say that,” Shin protested weakly, and Yukkii sighed happily. He lay down on the bed again. Somehow, watching Shin read girly manga was suddenly a lot more tolerable.
Of course, it probably helped that now, every so often, Shin would glance up from his manga to meet Yukkii’s gaze. That was all he had really wanted anyway.
