i was on skype tonight, and this random guy named Andy from Peking, China wanted to exchange contact details with me.  the message said, "hello, i want make friends of you."  then he started a chat by saying, "i would like to chat for some time."

um, WHAT is the deal?

i certainly hope these skyper individuals aren't getting creative and deciding to trash it up like on myspace-- a forum where it isn't uncommon for me (an inconsistent myspacer) to receive several messages and friend requests in a month from guys named Ricky that live in Lawrenceburg, have two kids and are "looking for the right kind of woman."

that sort of "myspacial" infiltration has already happened to some degree on facebook, where some people have riddled their profiles with meaningless applications.  now, i'm a big fan of scrabulous and "penguin of the day," but i swear if people keep inviting me to become zombies or find out how hot they think i am, i'm going to defriend them or something.  maybe that should be an application- defriending threats.

one of the things that's nice about skype (besides the good connection, low cost, and fun icons) is that, as my friend Hillary says, it's still genuine and legit.  i like it a lot- it's simple, effective, it has cool sound effects, and the features are really nifty.  i don't need some goob in China sifting through the nine million skypers out there and trying to friend me.  i'm not trying to meet people on skype, i'm just using it for the wonderful phone service it is.
