don't turn your back on me

I missed Jeff and Jesse's reading by a lot less less than I thought. I closed early on account of the sheets of rain, and went home, taking slower steps. I felt tired going home, and I wistfully looked to my bed and the new reading material I'd acquired (thanks Jesse!) but called up The Reason guys instead and set off to meet them at their show. We all sat around and got reacquainted, this time with their new drummer Cam and their merch guy friend John. The new drummer doesn't steal from our apartment like the last one and is a really sweet guy who has some serious wounds. They lovingly call him the bloody hamburger, because he's scratched up that bad. Cubby and I got to have some nice drunk talks, which was oddly comforting, seeing as I've only spent one day with the guy before. I dunno, something clicked with us the first time, and I think he's a really special guy. He just sort of let me ramble on about all the good things in the world, eyeing my sandwich, which I eventually gave up on and handed to him. He called me a romantic and I just nodded.

Speaking of not-so-old friends (because I don't have many that I could safely call 'old' and it would be old enough) Dylan and I have been chatting more and more often as of late. He's thinking of maybe coming up here for his birthday possibly. I know everyone would love to see him again, including me. Last summer as much as I struggled with my parents' separation and bottled frustration and anger with my friends, I still found comfort in sleeping next to him every night. I would complain of how sweaty I was or how there was no wind, but I knew inside mostly I was thankful that he was there for me when I would get home from work. Romance never worked out between us, but something really lovely developped in my heart for him, that is sure not to go away anytime soon.

Driving back in the bands' van we got pulled over by cops three blocks from our place (something about the trailer light not working) and the policeman was strangely understanding and forgiving. I was impressed, and relieved that he spoke english well, otherwise we would have been fucked. This weekend Nick, my old c-worker comes back to take on shifts, so I'll finally get time off on a regular basis. First on my priority list: seeing Valois with my own eyes.

I better get to sleep so I can have breakfast with the guys tomorrow, like old times.

Love,
Lucy
