Hey darling, we just went through this a month or so ago. If you are able, go check out Habitat HomeStore -- it's an offshoot of Habitat for Humanity and they have locations around the area that include everything from new to used appliances at roughly 80% off retails. Some are donated from builders and such, and the inventory changes from week to week, so keep checking if you don't find anything right away, as well.

that sux! craigslist and freecycle are also good places to check for deals on a washer, it's always hit or miss as to what you'll find though

I know what you mean! Our washing machine is rigged with a loop of copper to bypass a problem, the drier only works on certain types of cycles, and we're just hoping neither dies completely. This week the dog got into a fight and is currently at the vet ringing up bills. It sucks big time!!! I know you though, and you'll get through it and be laughing about it on the other end before long.

I love emt_hawk's idea about defective condoms, though!
